I will add that info thanks :) I could have sworn I used to have an account here, but I guess I am new again haha...Cherries huh? So we can try eating one? As far as tart cherries, they are brightly colored, so maybe so huh? I am just afraid to eat one only for it to be not edible. I read a cherry tree identifying guide that said the fruit always comes in bunches, and this tree has bunches...and singles. How do I know when they are ripe? thanks!

When they are dark red and soft they are ripe. Looks like your need a few days more.

All cherries are edible. But not all are palatable.

This is sweet cherry (Prunus avium). Sour cherry has different habit, twigs and leaves. In my area these may have to be netted if birds aren't to get most of the fruit.

Proportion of bunches and singles depends on how well pollination went in springtime. Fallen fruit and birds can also reduce bunch count.

Keep an eye out for whatever you have left...birds can pick them before ripe.

I have Rainier cherries mostly yellow with a red blush. The critters rarely touch them. I figure they are waiting for them to turn red.

I once did gardening in a yard that had a cherry tree a trunk least 6' across. and the first branch was at least 50' above the ground. Some day I will go back to see if it is still there. If it gets taken down, I figure it will make an incredible set of furniture and flooring.
