I'm guessing you are a Brit ?! trying to see your electrics to confirm !!! but that sounds a good idea ! love the flooring too!! if the cabinets are lighter - you might get away with similar wall tiling to the flooring ?!?! would be fab if you could replace the windows and door with a folding sliding door at some stage ?!?! bring in heaps of light and will bring the outside in !!!

Lovely floors! You have a couple of options on making the space brighter. You could paint the walls a nice light silver sage tone, this would pickup the greens in the floor & the lighter shade in your cabinets. Then I would pick a nice check or floral print to make roman shades for each window. I would then use a coordinating fabric to make tie on seat cushions for the stools. Another option is to paint the cabinets a light tone, see pics. Good luck, would love to see after pics!!

Need to get rid of the interior door as well, takes up space and no doubt we can do something better there.
The floor is the sole redeeming factor in this room at the mo so would be good to pick out the colours in it, sage silver sounds lovely.
I thought I might try to find some of those yellow Turkish style tiles and create a splashback but need to get those horrible brown tiles off the walls first.

Your cooker hood suggests cottage and if that is the route you want to take, may I suggest Annie Sloan Chalk paint for your cabinets.
I have recently discovered the paint and used it on numerous objects. Man, it is a true delight to paint with it and the results are fabulous.
I would also paint the brown door a brighter, lighter colour.

Not sure I want to go down the cottage look and feel but will definitely look into that paint. Agree completely on the door though! Grand idea, thanks Patricia
