Do you think you need a backsplash? In other words, when using this kitchen area, is there a lot of "splashing" from cooking, food prep, etc?

I think because of the way the area is designed, a backsplash will actually appear to "cut off" this small area from the surrounding walls if it is a different color. However, the tin tile look, if painted white, would be nice simply for a change of texture.

Lowe's and Home Depot actually both sell tin-tyle styled textured paintable wallpaper. I used that for my backsplash in my recent kitchen renovation and love it. I used high gloss white paint (Behr Swiss Coffee) and it looks like real tile.

The area behind the stove will easier to maintain with a backsplash. Not only will it act functional but it will add depth and texture to the space. Paintable wallpaper would not be practical in this space.

Pretty wall colors def do a backsplash. Maybe explore other options before you jump right into the silver tin. It may be to stark w/ white cabinets etc.

A backsplash will really make a bigger difference than you think. I would do something more subtle and not something that really pops which could make the kitchen appear smaller...
