Design Dilemma Kitchens

Size of custom range hood over 36" gas range

I am getting mixed messages about the size of a custom range hood over a 36" gas range. Some say it should be 3" bigger on each side and other photos it is the same. Does anyone have advice regarding this? Also, design wise, should another gap be left between the hood and the upper cabinets. If so, approximately how many inches? Thanks!

You need a 42”wx27”D, for proper capture area.

I'm researching the same thing for the same size range - had read the hood needed to come out at least 1/2 way over the front burner, that would be probably more like 42"x 24", but I'm not a pro. When I do mine I don't think I have the ability to go with more than 36 wide :(

In terms of gap between cabinets, if you're doing an integrated range hood you can have zero gap. This clean line of cabinets to hood to cabinets looks good to me personally.
