Blue is one of those colors that makes everyone feel good. It can be relaxing, subtle, enveloping and refreshing. And the even more important benefit of using this tone in your home is its versatility!!! So congratulations on selecting royal blue to compliment the brown. Add a bit of canary yellow to brighten the space.

I agree with the suggestion of chartreuse. Another idea is rust orange.

I like Manon's chartreuse. Gold and orange would be good complements, too. I would put a sofa table in the alcove and put the sofa in front of that. I would send that torchiere lamp to live with a starving student in the dorm. I would replace whatever that dark piece of art on the left is. And whatever color you choose for your accent, spread it in a couple more places around the room.

What color are walls? a warm grey or greige …. ?

Since you already have a gold throw and something yellow on the shelves, why reinvent the wheel?

Thanks for all the suggestions, the painted wall is a light grey. The main floor is all open so the living room and this room are same color to keep a nice flow. I was just confused on the accent color in this room as it has to stay somewhat masculine. One time I gave him a pink room and I’ve yet to live that down!

You don't need color, you need style. Pick a style. If it's a masculine reading room, then yellow curtains do not go with brown leather furniture. That wallpaper also does not fit in that space. Return the royal blue couch, that will not look good. Get a neutral colored couch in some kind of a greige color. And then get a couple of neutral colored textured pillows. Remove the mirror starburst and hang a large piece of art. Get a large faux tree for the corner. Upgrade the lighting fixture. Make the book shelf more functional, it's got too many little crap pieces on it that serve no purpose.

Some sconce on each side of the wallpapered wall and maybe do an ottoman that lightens the space. Just a thought:). The room looks great!!!
