If you want a king bed get one.....eastern king is almost square while California king is 4 inches narrower and 4 inches longer than an Eastern King. Tape it out on the floor and see what you end up with. A headboard arrangement only will look roomier than a bed like you have now...it will eat up inches.

Here are dimensions for mattresses; tape them out on floor in and see what looks best!

I think so. King is around 6 inches wider than queen. Length is the same. Now cal king is thinner n long but I’m not sure the size.. this looks similar to my bedroom but I don’t have the heat vents in wall. But u still should be ok with placing the side table in front of it.

Maybe you could attach a wall-mounted shelf on that wall space between the bottom of the window and the top of the radiator to serve as a bedside table, doing away with the table on that side of the bed. You could still have a nice sized table on the other side. There was a recent thread with pictures where someone had used wall-mounted shelves as bedside tables in a small room, but unfortunately I can't locate it.

Look, too, at bookcase headboards. You can find some that are compact and eliminate the need for end tables. You could mount wall lamps for reading. You'll love sleeping in a king size bed!

Love the idea of a bookcase headboard! I think that might completely solve your space issue and allow you to have the king bed you want. Cute room!

The bookcase headboards I've seen in people's homes look very utilitarian and seem to become a catchall for various unlovely items. I would never have one myself after having seen several. I felt like a college student again when sleeping in a bedroom that had one, but not in a good way.

Utilitarian isn't a dirty word. ;-) I still think it was a good suggestion and perhaps will give the OP ideas to explore.

Here's a cool headboard with floating shelf and light you might DIY or have made for a king frame. Just fill your entire wall space with it.

So many different sizes. Some kings are 78" by 80" so that they fit on two twin foundations. many sheets are 78" by 80".

The entrance to the room is actually opposite this wall where we have a tv mounted and oddly enough a second door that serves direct to what was once used as a nursery. We will likely close that door up but not thrilled by the idea of having my bed on the same wall as the entrance to the room for some reason, Feng Shui of sorts
