I would replace the backsplash. I am not a fan of the countertops, but I think that is my personal preference rather than it is dated. I think the paneled fridge with the ice maker looks funny and the light could be replaced.

But what is important is not whether or not it looks dated, but whether or not you like it!

Your kitchen has great bones You have beautiful countertops and wood floors. Even the cabinets are nice, although the red tones hint that it's an older kitchen so you will need more modern things to balance it.
There are a few things that are dating the kitchen: the backsplash, the light over the island, and the weird half paneling on the fridge.
The light will be the cheapest and easiest fix, followed by changing out the fridge for stainless steel. The backsplash will have the biggest impact.

For the backsplash, consider a small rustic/rough natural stone that is a bit cooler toned than you have now. Or a glass large format subway tile that matches the lightest color in your counters.

Lighting is a bit harder to recommend without seeing the rest of your space and your personal style, but pendants than hang down in an industrial style would be my first choice. You can get them with a bar that makes the multiple pendants work off one fixture.

The refrigerator panels and pendant are the worst offenders for me- they would need to be replaced. If it were my kitchen I would paint it white so that it would work a bit better with the countertop and backsplash.

Just a new fridge that’s not paneled and it will be great.

Cute counter chairs! Maybe change the chandelier to something updated. Black iron? Iron and copper? Black cabinet knobs? Need color on floor, an inexpensive pattern, like an oriental. There are amazing indoor outdoor rugs that can be hosed off! Cool tones (not grey) to go with the grey, with just a touch of the orangeish color in it to tie in the cabinets. Warm it up with cook books and plants. Put something on the island for sure.

Change the chandelier, backsplash and knobs and it will feel and look refreshed.

I don't agree with the comment above about painting it white. First, that will be a difficult and expensive project with uncertain results. Second, because it would not be addressing the more pressing problems which are--as others have said--the backsplash, light, and fridge. That kind of fridge panelling in particular, where the panels are thick and the water dispenser and trim show, is the most "frozen in time" item in your kitchen. Your counters look nice.

I would definitely change the light fixture and the cabinet hardware for sure. I am really really not a fan of the cabinet stain, so I would consider either refacing them, restaining them, or painting them. If you stained them, I’d go darker (maybe an espresso?) and update the pulls to reflect a more transitional feel. If you were to paint, you could go with white, ivory, or light gray, but you’d have to be careful to make sure the color corresponded to the granite and backsplash. I wouldn’t necessarily bother changing the counters, since I think they would look nice with the right color/style cabinetry. The backsplash isn’t great, but perhaps workable if you made the above changes. Good luck!! :)

Can you remove the wooden panels from the refrigerator clad it with something else- something less bulky?

To me the fridge and lighting fixture are leaning towards dated. I think the cabinets are gorgeous. I do like the industrial style/transitional style light posted above. (the Odie 8 light). I didn't see prices so I apologize if the one I picked is out of the price range :) edited to add- just checked and it is reasonably priced. yay

Your granite looks really nice. If its feasible to replace fridge with a SS one I would do that. Def a new light fixture, hardware and a new backsplash. You could even paint the island cabs for a bigger change. If you love your chairs, which are so nice, I would use those for my inspiration. Best of luck!

It's not a bad kitchen. Cabinet hardware update at the very least. I think the paneled fridge is a bit of an eyesore, if it is within your budget to replace it I would opt for a stainless steel fridge. Backsplash and lighting would be easier updates as well. Quick mock-up with some generic, but more toned down and modernized pieces to show you what it could look like.
