I now have 5 nice figs planted in a screened southern exposure, a black noid, Chicago, Sandy, Bari, and Danny's Delight. All are doing well, and I have a few observations and questions.

Chicago was indoors/dormant over the winter, planted in the ground in late March. It was creating a single, long main stem growing straight up, so I clipped off the top 6" to encourage branching, and it quickly set several fruits on the stem. Would it have set fruits at that time even if it hadn't been pruned?

The black/noid was set in the ground 2 years ago,+ after too many years near-dead in a pot (My bad!). It sprang back to life, and now looks more like a short, dense hedge, with at least 20 new stems coming up, after much of the top growth froze off during winter. Should figs like this be pruned as for other genera of fruit trees? My inclination is to 'open up' the structure for better air circulation and light, also bc some of the stems seem a little thinner than the others. Will clipping off the tips of stems also induce fruiting? Should I just leave everything as-is instead?

I'm trying to root any cuttings, of course!
