    Each number has two threaded "standoffs" - which are the tubes you can see in this photo coming off the back of the numbers. Two spikes are included with each number, and the spikes have one end which is threaded, and screws into the back of the number. The other end of the spike is a point, and after screwing in the spike to the standoffs on the number, the number with the spikes is inserted into pre-drilled holes - template is included. You can see a portion of the spike on the top standoff of the number 2 in the photo. Then you have a clean look with no screw holes in the front of the numbers. The spikes are 1 3/8 inches long, made of stainless. Let me know if you need more explanation and I'll be happy to help. Thank you for asking.
