Marble Bathroom Help

I recently bought a house that we are completely remodeling. We are currently picking out the design for the master bath and of course want different things. In an attempt to compromise, we are thinking of the following... but I cant find any similar setups so I'm worried how it will flow together.

This is the vanity we want.

This is the floor tile. It is ceramic to look like marble. We thought this would help save money, and we are thinking of going with the flat finish. I like the shiny but it seems like it would be too slippery?

This is the shower floor tile.

I am looking for overall advice, as well as a vote between the following two options. Ignore the bad photo shopping as my attempt at a visual :) Thank you!!

"Marble" bathroom floor, gray natural stone hexagon shower floor, marble shower walls.

I'd worry about the marble-look porcelain floor tile clashing with the real marble countertop. If you want to get that vanity, I suggest something like plain white hex porcelain tile or real matching marble on the floor. If you want to get the marble-look porcelain tile, I suggest a plain white vanity countertop. (But I'm not a pro!)

I had a similar idea when I began my own remodel. I was going to do a marble look porcelain floor with plain white quartz countertop, white subway on the walls, and porcelain octagon on the shower floor.

When I fell in love with carrara marble for the countertop, I changed my floor tile choice to white octagon porcelain with grey dots throughout, instead of the marble-look porcelain.

Finally, I decided to spend a bit more and go for marble basket weave floor throughout to match my carrara countertop.

Stone Center Online has great prices and the tile I got was high quality.

    Good luck with your remodel!

Thanks for the help! Your bathroom turned out awesome. I didn't even think about the clash of the counter and the floor! We have to redo every single room in the house so all the details can be a bit overwhelming. I will definitely have to give that some thought.

You could also use the gray hex tile that you chose for the shower on the entire floor. That would look good with the marble vanity you selected.

I feel for you having to redo every room in your house! Just the master bathroom remodel was stressful enough for me.

Marble requires a lot of maintenance. Unless you have staff to clean it up every day, or are willing to do it yourself, I'd rethink. In a bathroom?

Marble needs to be sealed often it's very porous. ...I personally wouldn't use it in a bathroom. I do love it though I have a marble kitchen backsplash

Yes marble or any other stone needs to be sealed but if you use a SOLVENT based sealer, you wont be resealing every year. Solvent based sealers last up to 3-5 yrs. To clean your stone I would recommend using a cap full of Dawn dish soap and warm water (1 cap full to 1 gallon of water). Dawn dish soap will not hurt the sealer or stone nor will it cause the sealer to break down over time. I will recommend you use a penetrating sealer. Stone Tech by Laticrete, Impregnator Pro is a great product.

The main products you want to keep off the marble for extended periods is liquid soaps and powdered make ups. If these products sit too long on the stone, the stone will absorb the product. Sealed or not sealed...it will happen.

If you choose marble, be careful as to what products you place on your countertops. Marble is porous and oils can stain it. Make sure any baby oil or anything like it sits on a "coaster" or that you don't put it on the countertop at all. If you color your hair, use another bathroom to do that, hair color will never come out of marble or granite.

I don't like granite in bathrooms, too much maintenance and too easy to do and Ooops that's permanent.

To add to what Carolina Kitchen says, be aware of METAL objects sitting on marble. A little bit of rust from a shaving cream can will permanently stain your marble. The feet of a stainless steel garbage can will cause little gray streaks when it is pushed/pulled (rubbing off a bit of the metal...like a brass rubbing). And any bit of rust again will show up as permanent.

I love marble but I am also VERY AWARE of it's quirks. I can live with them because I love "ignoring" things. It's my super-power. I can ignore ANYTHING for YEARS at a time if I have to. Most people cannot.

Please be aware of your personality type (can you handle imperfection and blemishes?) before working with something as quirky as marble.

My only comment here is don't ever mix real marble and other products made to look like marble like tile or whatnot. Even the nicest marble imitation looks like trash next to the real thing.

Real and look alikes are used very often. Depends upon the manufacturer and the amount of 'faces' a tile has. Some may only have 8-10. Others 15+ Of course the tiles that have 15 or more faces will have a better authentic look. But I agree, you can't beat the real thing.
