I have a feeling the OP is not in the US. I like the glass metro (subway) tiles very much. A very clean counterpoint to your lovely cabinets.

Whoever left that solvent can on that top is playing with fire.

I'd go for a shiny white ceramic or glass. Will keep things light and airy...

I think that it's really hard to get the undertones right in two greys that will be right next to each other, so I'd go with white. Not impossible, mind you, but really, really hard.
