Poplar? I agree on the root sprout look

No existing trees close by but I agree on the vigorous look.

Funny I never noticed it before. Might have to let it grow for a while just to see.

Tree root systems are typically much broader than their tops. so this could have come from a tree whose top is next door or even across the street (I once had a Rosa rugosa 'Alba' I was growing near the front of my lot pop up on the other side of our paved dead-end street. And no, it wasn't a seedling, because it had a full head of steam from when it first appeared).

There is a large Tilia across the street and large acer negundo and a Fraxinus pennsylvanica a little further but I've seen that one sucker near the tree and the leaves started out more brown. It does look like an established set of roots and I may have mowed it over a few times, multiple stalks at the ground.

Everything else was wiped out here 8 years ago, so it's like an open field for 100 yards around me. Unless something finally is coming from old roots.

When I first looked at this, I was thinking something like a plum but idk.

I put a shroud around it so we'll see if the leaves develop further.

The shoots have opposite foliage so any suggested species needs to fit that criterion. Of the plants named so far only honeysuckle does. But I'm not saying that's what it is.

Are those flower buds in the leaf axels? Or just leaves.

This caused me to look at pictures from last year. This appears to be the exact same spot where I pulled that honeysuckle out by the roots last Fall. Probably left a chunk of the root down there. Out it goes! :-)

if you let that pasture be for a decade, it will be full of trees. This one is just getting an early start. Let it grow a little while then post pic next year.

I pulled out two of those European Honeysuckle bushes from my yard last season, no sign of the other one and I just gave this one the 'Undiluted Glyphosate treatment'. There are too many better choices out there to settle for invasive species from another country.

This bears a strong resemblance to the invasive bush honeysuckle that is prevalent in my area. I would treat it with some Roundup.
