Thank you beverlymnz4...the pot is in i think 5 gal. pot im thinking the opposite that I water to much...I tried to adjust the watering and put the pot under the patio so she got only 2 hrs.early morning sun...but still the leaves continue yellowing...i don't know what to do....

with all the burning.. i didnt notice the slight edge ... go figure ... ken

Thanks peren.all :) yes its Fortunie Aureomarginata;) Ken i water a lot my hosta ....not really much hosta though :) but i add some not fancy one from last 3 yrs. since I started reading hosta forum you guys good enabler :))

Gfost, its hard to overwater a hosta in a pot - unless - there isn't proper drainage holes or there is poorly draining potting medium.

The potting medium i found this year seems good i just add little bit perlite , little bit chunk of bark and i add my own compost on it ...bought some hostas in early spring this year near by farm and garden supplies they have a lot of hostas in thier nursery area that I realy wanted but i don't have much space and lock of shade in my yard ...got bro. stephan ,dream queen, forbidden fruit i plant them in the ground and bought sagae,2 liberty,wheee,city lights,paradigm and revolution they repotted in a new pots and doing realy great ...same potting medium that I used in FA which bothering me shes the only one not doing good i bought her and some others last year in green mountain hostas and all of them are doing great ...now I'm just hoping that she will come back next year might be i will find and plant her in the ground but i need to find space for her 'coz i still have 2 heuchera and 3 hostas that still in nursery pot...im in trouble lol...still thinking to buy more ...specialy blue hostas ;)

Gfost, I think it's just reacting to heat and being moved from the barrel earlier on. It will be fine next year. It's a tough cultivar. If it were mine, I would plant it somewhere in the ground, anywhere, where its roots would stay cooler - maybe in more shade and keep it watered. That would prevent the temperature fluctuations that it experiences in a plastic pot which gets hot during the day. You can either return it to a pot next spring, or relocate it to a more permanent location then.

Whenever a hosta causes me to worry, I plant it in the ground as soon as I can...even if it is a temporary location. I have lost hosta in pots, but never in the ground. If a hosta is heat stressed or moved, it may come back next year a bit smaller - the leaves may also be smaller but a year later you would not notice the difference at all. Some don't mind being moved/disturbed but this hot summer is doing a number on some of my hostas this year. Thank goodness for City water!

Thanks josephines :) I'm trying to find a place for her in the ground but I put the.pot under the trees for now ( idk the name of the trees) its really getting to hot here 95 F deg. today and tomorrow it's say 99 F Mon.102 F glad we have free water from well and running the sprinklers every morning for 25 mins.

Why would we have realized that? In the interest of being educated, are there 2 different Aureomarginatas? One being an FA and the other being some another kind of Aureomarginata? Or are 3 different kinds? I thought I was doing good to know I have a Aureomarginata. And is it pronounced REO as in like REO speedwagon! My Francis William will always be Frank.

You are of course correct in saying many would not know that.

There are 3 that I know of Fortunei Aureomarginata, montana Aureomarginata and Ventricosa Aureomarginata. Yes as in REO speedwagon.

Gardencool, Frank made me laugh...but, the correct spelling is Frances Williams which makes it a female. Frank is a good name - I had a brother named Frank and a father named Frank. ;-). (I happen to have the first two Aureomarginatas Peren.all mentions.)

I went on a garden walk (250 hosta varieties in 1 garden) yesterday where not 1 but 2 master gardeners tried to correct me from calling a tiger lily a tiger lily. They called it blah blah whatever! I told one of the 'masters' that she can call it whatever, the rest of the us are going to keep calling it a tiger lily.
