Different Windows, Same Room - WWYD?

Here is my family living/rec room. Please excuse the family actually living in the living room. (the nerve!). And yes, I have stuff. And was too tired to stage the photo. This is real life, people.

We've gone 15 years without any window coverings here. But the TV glare is not great, and the sun beats in early in the am. (these were taken at night, obvs.) So, how to I treat these windows? I'd love some sort of black and white large scale buffalo check drapes (like the pillows) - But do I put those on the one big window, and then go with tie-ups in the same pattern behind the couch? I can't put drapes behind the couch... right?

This is mostly a kids hangout room, DH and I have our separate living room (that has drapes). Once I do something with the windows, I'll re-post an 'after', so you can see the room all neat and tidy. It's actually a really nice room, despite its appearance in these photos.

If it was just this window, it's a no brainier...drapes.

But then there's these... (just to mess with me...)

So here is the whole room.. (and yes, I tell him all the time to step back from the screen!)

They don't need to be the same, which is good because in your room they can't be the same, because of the sofa, air conditioner, etc.

Of course, I'm wild and crazy, and would probably consider two different co-ordinating fabrics as long as they were in the same color family!

As you said, it's the room where the kids hang out. I'd have some fun with it : ) .

Roman shades?

Love the Roman shade idea, and love the inspiration pic. Any idea where to find them just like that? (I’m a little wary of the Interior shutters, as dust collectors.)

Anything covering your window is a dust collector.

Use vacuum cleaner attachments or fuzzy wands to dust interior shutters

How would you clean Roman Shades?

The ones posted were custom made, I suspect.

You could use faux Roman shades/valances over basic cellular shades,

Buffalo check faux Roman shades/valances

And Bed Bath & Beyond has buffalo check curtains as well as "tie up" shades.

Target has both the curtains and the tie up shades too.

Depending on your budget, Ballard Designs also has buffalo check curtain panels.

Thanks, Becky! So would you do curtains on the big tri-windows and then Roman shades or tie ups in the same pattern on the others 3? Or, do all window treatments in a room need to be the same?

Hey There: You can go / and should go with the same window covering style in your living room...don't mix. The trick is to find the perfect blinds/shades that is functional and beautiful. You can go with inside mount installed bottom up top down shades - the large window gets 3 units so you don't cover the beautiful wood trim. These blinds can be opened to any position to your liking and needs.

Although many members only give advice, many self-identified pros "suggest" items to buy through them. It is all the same. CellWindow offered a good solution to the OP.

Becky, OP's first question "So how to I treat these windows?" This question precedes her statement re: black & white. Therefore, window options were invited. However, I understand your point as I have seen many an artist attempt to peddle their wares that have no relation to a room's decor.

I have the top-down / bottom-up shades in the front rooms of my house and really like them. I esp like the bottom-up so that I can have a view without feeling like I'm in a fishbowl

You can use anything you like but shutters are a PAIN to get all of each shutter. Same as blinds. They are EVIL!!
