Elmer, sometimes you just don't get it...LOL! I think a youtube channel about laundry will be a great idea...some of these youtube people are making a LOT OF MONEY making video about stuff that YOU wouldn't have any interest in...like makeup and hair stuff...HA! I'm sure to you, it would not be of any interest.

Something else that would be very interesting is youtube videos about the Amish way of doing things...or the old way of doing things such as boiling laundry to get it clean back before we had all these chemicals. Maybe boiling laundry is healthier than using a bunch of chemicals to clean stuff...just a thought...

Ali as to your question. ..yes the straw colored sheets technically would be staining but on sheets....but we know its caused from a build up of body oils. This happens with improper laundering and requires hot water to remove. Actually if the body oils are so bad as to discolor the sheets this much (straw colored) they will need better than hot to remove it where as a drip of mustard or pasta sauce needs at least a quick cool flush before heat. body oils don't.

Remember generally boiling is a last resort after all other methods have been exhausted. I don't recommend you start boiling all your whites. Lol.

Lucille why not search the thrift stores for a proper pot. Did you get your Sodium percarbonate yet?

Mama I have a large stainless pot but it is not as large as the canner. One of the two canners is already discolored and that doesn't bother me, I just want to make sure that the discoloration can't transfer to the washcloths.

Have not gotten the percarbonate yet, expect it today or tomorrow.

Lucille. Try one older white cloth before adding the others. I ruined a aluminum pot. Its so discolored but it didn't hurt my whites.

I will try that. A discolored pot is not ruined, I still use my discolored canner.

Boiling laundry isn't something people do anymore. It's harmless, I'm not offended, but this won't earn enough to buy coffee at the local boutique roaster.

I think your video will be entertaining. Having said that, i don't think many people these days want to boil laundry. Just look at the popularity of convenience products. Heck many these days don't even measure their detergent and prefer pods.

LOL....My video is about washing textiles...its not about boil washing. This thread is about boil washing which is where I decided to let my friends know about the video...

I don't suppose the world is interested in boil washing which is why its not what my video is about...however there are some expert launderers here that enjoy it and enjoy talking about it.

You would be surprised at what sort of videos people watch on youtube...I enjoy watching all sorts of videos. I watch videos of abandoned houses...would you like that Elmer? Doubt it! I think people have many different interests these days and just because a subject does not interest one people...it may interest another! I stick to my guns on this one and say that laundry expertise videos will be watched! You may be surprised that she may get way more than 50,000 views!

There's all sorts of stuff on KT that not everyone does but are nevertheless interesting to many of us. Restoring houses, wonderful recipes, rescuing horses, new kittens, creating beautiful one of a kind embroidered items.

If you are not interested scroll on by, but to actually verbalize that not many people may be interested insults both the OP and those who have followed along and obviously are interested and is in my opinion showing poor manners..

As far as laundry skills, particularly expertise in vintage items, and money goes, there is a HUGE market right now for vintage linens and hand made quilts. A first video may not bring in any money but it is a good step in the right direction.

If MamaP wrote a book on laundry and in particular handling vintage and/or delicate items I'd buy it, because I know that she has the goods as far as knowledge of her subject. I'm sick and tired of how to books written by professional hacks who don't know anything.

Isn't it more about the ads? They want you to click or listen to the ads, that's where the money comes in. I never listen or watch the ads as takes too much of my wifi time. I watch music videos from time to time.

She certainly helped my hand towels. I had tried every product out there to get the ground in grime from not-to-be-named family members "washing" hands and drying on my ivory towels. The cannot be replaced real cotton towels. Now, I don't have just decorative towels, I expect them to be used, but like them to look nice.

Using the boiling method removed all the grime. Thanks again MP.

Sherry, I have a farmer husband who is grimy with oil and dirt 24/7, lol. I have white Terry towels for him in the mudroom/bathroom for his hand washing. I don't have to do a boil wash, because my old Miele machine goes to 190*F, and gets those towels white again. Otherwise I'd have to boil them.

I have a Whirlpool and I love it, but it only gets as hot as the hot water tank. Hubby is good about washing first with Dawn, then with hand soap, and using paper towels to dry. Thank goodness I don't deal with it every day, LOL. It probably was the grandkids when they were little. I just didn't catch before washing and drying, which set the ground in dirt. I kept thinking for quite a while that they just needed to be washed??????

• Sherry, DH uses Dawn exclusively for washing his hands, lol. I like using the white towels. They always look so crisp and clean, until they don't at the end of the day.

Enduring, I agree white is so fresh and crisp looking. I started off with colored sheets and towels which I am replacing with white. So much easier to decorate around and easy peasy to wash.

Dolly years ago someone stopped by the laundry forum talking about how dingy their white sheets were. Could actually see a body imprint of dingy on the sheets. This OP wasn't exactly interested in how to get the white sheets clean but instead wanted to know the best colored sheets to hide the stains. I'm still chuckling over that. Haha

Grandbaby was visiting recently and I handed her a clean washcloth that had been laundered but still had a makeup stain to dry her hands, she said 'Grandma this is dirty'. Made me feel like I had come up short in the grandma department.

I had tried everything but some of the makeup stains were just resistant. It may be that the stains set and nothing I could do was going to help (although, I do feel like those stains don't give any lip to Mama).

I'm buying a bunch of new washcloths. The old ones will be for housecleaning. And I've been using disposable makeup remover pads.

mamapinky - I am very interested in watching your video's. Are they up yet? I have several items that I want to freshen up but I am too embarrassed to ask on the regular laundry page.

Lucille, my SIL stayed at a B&B last Spring that had black wash cloths embroidered with the word 'Makeup'. She thought it was such a clever idea, she ordered a bunch and gave us all several.

They wouldn't be dark black very long here (haven't used them), my wash cloths are white and get the white cycle, hot water. I'm not crazy about this last energy efficient Maytag, but it does do a good job on white sheets and towels. I use more than one brand makeup product, could I just be lucky enough none seems to result in a stain?

I wouldn't touch a black wash cloth at a B&B because it was probably washed in cold water, to preserve the color, and covered in make-up residue of previous guests. Ew.

Got a question: I have off white upholstered dining room chair seats with old grease stains. I tried 409 & warm water, it helped. What else can I do?

Ammonia and water and a scrub if fabric allows removes grease stains. Mix about 50 50. With your skills, you could recover, no?

This is the water extracted from a small load of whites after boiling them with 1/3 cup Tide Ultra Stain Release Free, 1 tbsp STPP, 1 tbsp sodium percarbonate. The image here does not do it justice. There is very little odor seeming like it is from sebum/sweat, but looks a bit more like dirt and residue. A majority of these loads have been washed using the Sanitize cycle.

That was me! The pot I used was from the Instant Pot. We actually melted it accidentally. So I have been using it on the stove. I miss Mama as well! Boiling my pillowcases now! Lol.

I use silk organza for pressing cloths in my sewing room. At one point, many(!) years ago, they were just nasty looking from fusible interfacing glues and general crud. So I boiled them on the stove, with a small amount of Charlie's Soap. They came out pristine clean white and are still going strong today.
