Yes, deadheading Datura will make it produce more blooms, and it will free you from having to deal with the dried up sharp seedpods.

Yes, I think so. But if you do, you miss out on the really cool seedpods -- those things look like Medieval instruments of torture LOL!

I noticed my Datura in the ground is growing much larger than the potted one I have; this has been my experience in the past, too - I think they're just much better planted in the ground where they can grow to their full shrub-like potential and really show their stuff.

Yes, the seedpods ARE really cool. Probably why I have not cut them off yet. But I want the flowers, so I'd better get to it. It has not achieved much size in its pot. But I really didn't have an in-ground location for it.

Now my castor bean plant, THAT I grow JUST for its cool red spiky seedpods....That too is in a pot. But they didn't do well in the ground when I tried them that way. I saved seeds from last year's plant, so maybe I'll try a few in the ground next year.

yes deadhead the datura and be careful of the castor bean around children and pets as they are deadly!
