Could I replace the Kitchen table with a multipurpose island/table?

We are not in the budget for a complete redo... we have painted over the cabinets and added the molding on the soffit, replaced the floor on a budget....

We have a long LR that has a space that we can make a dining room. I am considering moving the table to that room. We will still want some space in the kitchen for seating and food prep. I am wondering if we could build out some kind of island that we can combine with a seating area.

Any suggestions on how I can accomplish this? Will it look dumb to have the island extend past the cabinets and into the EIK area. I know I may have to change out the lighting.

My SIL has an island height table with 4 stools that doubles as prep space as well with a big wood cutting board on it. Maybe something like that would work? I am not sure how much space you have but being able to completely slide the stools would be helpful for aisles.

Look at Ikea island tables. We have the Stenstorp, and love it.

Move your table into the space you think an island would work and see if it functions as an island. Easy peasy! Protect it with a vinyl table cloth until you figure it out.

I was kind of thinking something like this but probably not as deep. I will try and move my table over into that area and see how sizing would work.

The table fits. The island will look like you forced it. Islands for the sake of islands are not great. Not at all a desireable look. I would love to change my island for a kitchen table, but it’s not possible for me. Keep the table.
