There have been a few times that I've ordered fabric online. One company I've used is fabric dot com and have always been happy with the material. Minky is one thing I've ordered because our local shop did not carry it at the time I wanted it, and the price was good online. (usually I do prefer to spend those $$ at my local shop, tho!). Another thing I ordered were batiks and got really lucky with some sale yardage. I just needed it for blenders and was perfect. Probably it helps, too, if you know the name of the designers and companies that you are looking at.

My closest quilt shop is over an hour away, so I often order online. I like fabric.com and Keepsake quilting. Although the past 2 orders from Keepsake had a few problems, they corrected them quickly. I have also had good luck from Bear Creek Quilting.

I've ordered from thousandsofbolts.com and fabric.com. Both gave excellent, fast service.

I buy most of my fabric online though I live in a big metropolis (awful traffic). I've ordered from fabric.com, craftsy.com and hancocks-paducah.com. I've had very good experiences with all of them in terms of how they cut yardage, shipping and handling, etc. I usually order known/reputed brands from them, so the quality is dependent on the manufacturer. Of late I've been ordering from some small businesses and etsy storefronts. They are run by individual quilters - it's the equivalent of supporting a LQS in the blog-land. Fabric.com is owned by amazon. craftsy.com recently was acquired by NBC. I think Hancocks of Paducah is still family owned.

Regardless of where you order, the colors may not be exactly what you see on your screen. If you need a close color match, you should shop in person. Nothing really compares to actually seeing and touch the fabric you buy. But if you are looking for something within a range of colors you should be OK.

I don't buy much online, mostly things when I'm looking for a specific fabric. So, most of mine have been one time, small orders.

I've bought from some Etsy shops and they have been fine. I've ordered from Missouri Star Quilt, Green Fairy Quilts, The Fat Quarter Shop, Hancocks of Padukah and Quilt Fabric Closeouts. The experience has always been great, with no problems.

I ordered some fabric from Marshall's Dry Goods. It wasn't very good fabric, but it was a closeout fabric at about $2.99 a yard, so what did I expect? It arrived on time and was well packaged.

I order most of my fabric online. I take advantage of Joann's sales, and also very happy with Hancocks of Padukah, Connecting Threads, and others when they have sales. I often get backings from Marshall's Dry Goods--their prices are the best.

I have ordered online, also. Same shops everyone else has mentioned, but if you ever need wide backing, Backsidefabrics.com has great prices and I have been happy with the quality.

Their fabrics are top quality and they have a huge assortment of gorgeous prints and other fabrics, backings, batiks, etc. I'm into floral, nature, and landscape fabrics. They carry very realistic prints. They are also a charitable, woman owned company.

I have ordered from Missouri Star, equilter (my favorite!), and fabric.com. No problems with service.

I've had good experiences with Fabric.com, Thousands of Bolts, and Connecting Threads. Lately I've been loving Missouri Star Quilt Co. Their daily specials are fabulous and sometimes as much as 50% off.

Missouri * has great deals and they will do the extra mile to please the customer. Great company. The only thing is....they run out of the Daily Deal so fast!

I do buy online. My favorite is Fat Quarter Shop, which has great customer service and is very speedy when it comes to shipping.

This week I ordered from Hancock’s of Paducah. They are slower to ship, which is annoying when you need the fabric for a quilt on which you’re working, but they have good sales.

Missouri Quilting is okay, but they don’t seem to have the deals.

Our LQS has wonderful, if expensive, fabric. Oddly, the owner is not very pleasant, to the point where the SAGA members drive 90 minutes to get their machines serviced, just so they don’t have to deal with her!

latifolia......I am a member of the Missouri * community, and they have Daily Deals. Perhaps it is for forum members only.

I hesitated to post it, but I had a problem with Missouri. Ordered and paid for an apron pattern, which they back ordered. Followed up several months later, still back ordered. After about six months, I asked again. They got a new computer system which canceled all the back orders. Finally the woman asked me if I would like a credit, which they did. Had I not called, nothing would have happened.

They also were very slow in processing an order - well over a week - I needed to finish a birthday present. So I’ve been shopping elsewhere.

I have really enjoyed the sales I have found at Hancock Fabrics of Paducah. I live about an hour north of Paducah and if I need something special, I will make the trip. Otherwise I have ordered may sale batiks online and have been very pleased. Shipping was usually withing 5-7 days and if over a certain amount ($50 I think) shipping is free.

$70 for free shipping at Hancock’s of Paducah. I was forced to order $80 of fabric this week .

I recently ordered from Connecting Threads and was very pleased with the fabric quality and the service. I was especially happy to see that the color pictured on my monitor was very close to reality. I bought things that go together on their design table system, which I really like.

Agree with all above. Have had good results with Fat Quarter Shop.

I usually buy from Connecting Threads unless I'm going for something specific. The wrong fabric (3 yards) got sent one time and I was told to keep it and they sent the correct one at no charge. Hancock of Paducah seems to be the only one I can trust for a true white Kona Cotton. I also check out and buy (periodically) from a friend who has an Ebay store but sells direct, too.
