Flagstone, travertine, or concrete coping?

What issues have you encountered with any of these? We’re replacing our 36 yeah old cast concrete coping and are torn on what to replace it with. The only thing we know we don’t want is brick.

We like the idea of the cool temp travertine but also like the look of flagstone. We’re concerned about flaking though. Does anyone have any input of any of the others?

We prefer natural stone over any pre-cast or clay brick coping. If you are considering travertine, the honed finish is what you want.

We use limestone or some other lighter colored natural stone in sunny locations as they are not hot under foot. Bluestone, a beautiful material, can be be extremely hot in the sun.

Most dark stones will hold heat in the sun as well.

Some flagging material may be very porous and can susceptible to flaking.

Your best bet is to visit a local stone yard and find the available natural material suited for your application.
