stupid small & awkward kitchen

My kitchen in my new house is designed by stupid people. It's 8.6' long by 8.6' wide with a doorway on one wall and an archway on another that leadd to the living room. There's only 2 outlets. And the bottom cupboards on one half of the counter open up to the side of the oven/stove. Theres no storage space hardly at all and it's very old fashioned. How can i renovate it to fix these problems?

    Hi Jesika:

It might be helpful to switch to built ins for your range. Install a cooktop with the microwave over with a vent built in to the microwave. This will give you cabinet space underneath the cooktop. Where the microwave is now, install a wall oven with storage overhead. All of the larger appliances could be stainless steel which would make the space feel lighter. I would also suggest painting the walls white with cabinets to match with stainless steel pulls.

Go with a smaller refrigerator that will give you more cabinet space overhead. Insure remainder of cabinets go up to ceiling for more storage and to open up counterspace. Invest in dorm size smaller appliances to keep counters free. I would suggest countertops be quartz or even butcher block to continue the light airy feel and do stainless steel backsplash. Add pops of color with either soft blue or lemon yellow towels, rugs, and curtains.

Change flooring to a new laminate wood throughout for continuity and a feeling of openness.

These are my thoughts. Hope they help.

Obviously this kitchen needs a serious remodel. Is this in the budget? A DIY project, more details of what you hope to achieve.

Also, Please, Draw the floorplan with measures take a photo of it & uploaded here, so Houzzers can help more. More photos, too.

1 of the major problems is where to put that huge fridge. Is there anywhere else it could go currently?

Is it an option to take down walls? Consult a contractor to find out which walls are support walls.

Also ask a Pro if a wall can be recessed so the back of the fridge can get out of the cooking area.

    Example.

    Also recessed shelving.

When building into a wall. New support structure will need to be built inside between the studs. Also make sure there's no plumbing, electrical, etc that would interfere. Consult a Pro GC.

Jessica, are you just moving in? How long have you lived there?

Seems the "window" above the sink looks into another room. Perhaps you should annex that into the kitchen. I hope the clutter belongs to the previous owner and is gone by now.
