My celeste produced decent figs when it was in a pot. I put it in the ground and on the rare occasion it fruits they are tiny and drop prematurely. I am not a fan and it might be culled if it does not improve.

Thanks, Mary. It's a shame for me to have to give such a well regarded fig its "final pruning," so to say, especially for such a good grower, otherwise. In my quest for the perfect pot cultured fig trees for my 'portable orchard,' Celeste is the first write-off.

My Celeste was planted 2 years ago and last year's crop was minimal and blah. This past 2 weeks.,,, fantastic. Its a delicious fig that rivals the black mission.

Moses, I had a pot-grown Celeste for 3 years and it dropped most of the figs as well. It was disposed of as well.

If it is growing well, give it more time, or use it for a rootstock.

Thank you all for your input. I will concentrate my efforts on growing the many varieties of the Mt. Etna figs, which seem to be the easiest to grow, tastiest, most prolific, and most vigorous in my zone 5/6, and as pot cultured fig trees. My Celeste is history.

Thanks for your input. Your expertise is invaluable to me. Ronde de Bordeaux and Flores are on my 'get soon,' list. I will study up on Improved Celeste.

No matter the flavor, every ripe fig, from a well managed tree, is delicious to me. I like them all, flavor wise, prefer the 'Fig Newton,' taste, but not fanatically stuck on it.

My fig tree varieties are ' one of each,' being relatively new to figs, in an effort to see which one does the best under my care and growing conditions.

My Black Mission is already becoming a favorite, produces abundantly in spite of it being virused. I have two tissue cultured Black Missions coming along which I got tissue cultured specifically to have more, but virus free Black Missions.

Any comments or advice are greatly appreciated.

BTW, My neighbor, who knows figs, being born and raised in Afghanistan, said my Little Miss Figgy fruit was my best tasting of last year, 2017.

I don't see a Chicago Hardy/Hardy Chicago, Sals, Takoma Violet, Marseilles Black vs or any other of the common Mt Etna's on your list. I'm not familiar with the GeNeri, though I have seen the name, is that a Mt Etna? You have a good variety of figs with different flavor profiles.

I'm not an expert on figs, but am working toward gaining some more knowledge and experience - I have been growing them for about 5y.

All I know about G.E. Neri is that it is said to be the largest, or among the largest figs, baseball size? I came across a word about its name, G.E. Neri, can't remember where, that said the name is probably Generi, not G.E. Neri, as it is listed wherever it is sold.

Seems everyone who sells it sends tissue cultured 5" tall plugs as is, or bumped up into 3-4" liner pots. It's growth rate for me so far is good, but not above average.

I know nothing more about it.
