Too early to know how it will perform. No one has posted about it. It is a recent introduction from Monrovia. But in Z4, most macrophyllas are not reliable bloomers & are only root hardy. All stems from the prev year will normally dry/die out. There will normally be no leaf out and so, all growth in the Spring will come from new stems. Provided that those new stems get tall and old enough, FI is supposed to bloom from the new stems in late Summer or early Fall.... unless winter shows up early and throws a monkey wrench on this blooming process.

The only way to get blooms in Spring is to winter protect the shrub.

Keep it well mulched... 2-4" past the drip line.
