Bathroom Lighting Question

We have a 99" vanity with double sinks. We are remodeling and are opting for one large mirror spanning the 99" width, instead of two framed mirrors over the sinks (that's decided).

Above the vanity we'll have some kind of can lights (2 or 3 - amply brightens the area with 2) tucked up into a recessed area. I've read where makeup and needs would be well served with sconces. I've seen where the sconces are cut into the mirror and that's fine.

1. Do you think sconces are a good addition when the recessed lighting amply brightens the space?

2. If you do think sconces are a good idea, I would like advice on how many.

  • One that's centered?
  • Two sconces as shown on the endwalls -
  • Three as shown?
  • I've seen 4 which may be overkill.

I know that no sconces should be placed over a sink. I'd have the electrician wire all the sconces to a switch that turns on only the sconces and could be on a dimmer.

Thank you for any advice.
