You could try decorative mirrors on the walls to help bounce what light comes in around. You could consider a mirrored backsplash in the kitchen also.

Agree with Denita...the pendant you show, while lovely looking, won't do much as far as light goes. Surely we can do better? While you don't want to be blinded, you do want to be able to see.
