Thanks for the advice, I knew you could do the daylilies like that just wasn't sure about the iris.

I've never done that with my daylilies, but now I may just try it! I selectively trim some of my bearded iris foliage after bloom in areas where they may block sprinklers.

The 1st time I purchased some daylilies from a grower I picked out the one I wanted then the lady handed me a shovel to dig them up. Once I had she immediately reached down and broke off the foliage to about 6 inches tall and told me not to worry about it they would be just fine. I took them home and planted them and sure enough to this day they are still thriving.

True, David! When I divide daylillies to give them away, I always trim the foliage down to about 6". I guess I just never made the connection that I could do that with the ones planted. But I'm definitely going to try it this year. I looked around and found some blogs showing that style and it really does make a tidier garden that enables the other plants that are growing and blooming after to shine.
