Viking Range 48" Noise

last modified: 8 years ago

Is there a fan that runs while cooking with the newer Viking Ranges? Baking a casserole and there sounds like a fan is running. I looked in the manual. Is this normal or any idea how to turn it off?

Update: Turned the oven off and the fan remained running. It turned off automatically after about 20-25 minutes. Stayed off about 5 minutes and then turned back on. Oven is still off. Trying to figure out what is going on.

All ranges that have electronics today have a fan to cool the electronics. If you don't want a fan, then you have to find the very few ranges left in the market that don't have electronics, like Bluestar. Whether you buy a Viking range or another brand, if it has electronics it will have a fan. The fan will stay on long enough after you've turned off the oven until the temperature will not fry the electronics. Depending on how hot your oven was set at, that cooling could take 15-30 minutes after the oven is turned off. I am not sure why your range's fan turned back on after it had turned off.

Many manufacturers use the oven sensor to tell the fan when to come on and when to shut off.

The reason the fan may have come back on is once the cooling fan turned off the residual heat in the oven may have increased slightly and turned the fan back on.

Cooling fans are important and you want yours running long enough to ensure the electronics are not going to be damaged by the heat.

Thanks for the information. I thought something might be wrong with it at first. I've cooked the past few days and each time the fan comes on after shutting the oven off. It is not too loud thankfully. New technology!

Thanks NC I am considering a Viking and wondering if the noise from the fan is noisy enough to have to raise your voice or the volume on the TV -we will be in an open plan. Also are you generally happy with your purchase? Any comments appreciated! thanks in advance.

We initially bought a Viking induction range, but the fan noise was so bad that we exchanged it for a Miele, with no regets.

We have a Viking 5 series range with the double ovens and the sound is horrible! Not only does it drown out our television in the adjacent living room while cooking, it continues to run for 30-45 minutes after cooking. I understand the point of the fan, but not the volume. We had a GE profile that had a cooling fan and it was barely audible. So disappointed in this purchase.

It sounds like the fan you're hearing is likely the cooling or convection fan, which is normal for many newer Viking Ranges. These fans help manage the oven temperature and prevent overheating. The fan can continue running even after the oven is turned off to cool down the components. If it keeps turning on unexpectedly, it might be worth contacting Viking customer support for further assistance. Checking the warranty or having a professional inspect it could also be a good idea if the issue persists.
