Afraid to Paint!

I'm planning to spruce up my side porch, and as part of that would like to paint the fiberglass door either black or red. It has a LOT of small chips and the color is nasty.

So, cautious person that I am, I started watching videos and reading instructions--all of them conflicting, I might add. THEN I read that fiberglass doors require different paint and primer based on the TYPE of fiberglass they are, ie. polyester or epoxy! I dunno the darn door's pedigree, for heaven's sake--it's a door, it opens and closes. It was here when I bought the place.

Also, should I stick with black because red paint is always thinner and the chips might show or it might streak? I always clean with a de-greaser & sand lightly, but side doors get a lot of attention from visitors, and I don't want to ruin this one.

Anyone done this before? Anyone?
