Last year DA was out of a bunch of stuff super early. I was gonna order some more Evelyns but they were out last year, so this year I ordered them early in the fall..just in case lol. They were out of Sharifa Asma and Bathsheba fairly early on last year as well.

Looks like Burpee Seeds is carrying Roald Dahl this year. They are expensive but they have sales and promo codes sometimes, so often cheaper than DA for me. I got a bunch of DA rose from Burpee last year and they all did well.

Edmunds has a lot of roses I like this year so I will be ordering from them again too. Celestial Night, All Dressed Up and Life of the Party are so pretty!

I don't have any mini roses, so I was thinking about getting Life's Little Pleasures.

Judith - I just received the DA catalog in the mail today, so looks like they finally got it out!

I ordered some roses the other day and they told me catalogs were being mailed now, so since you gots yours, maybe we will all be getting them! I am on my way to the post office tomorrow. Is the catalog different from the others? They told me the format had changed. Also told me the following roses will be discontinued: Cottage Rose, Miss Alice, Spirit of Freedom, The Endeavor, Windrush. Thanks for the heads up!

It's a beautiful 173-pages book and one of my favorites from David Austin. It's like a good bye gift from David Austin Sr. I really like the "Index By Color" section at the end of the book. Helen

Why they would discontinue Spirit of Freedom is beyond me! This rose is gorgeous and one of my best bloomers even though it was new this past spring. It has a lilc pink tone thats hard to find.

One of the things I noticed in the catalog if you look at what they list as height and width it is much more realistic than roses previously listed at 3' that turn out to be 5 ' .

It is a lovely catalog and the cover with Desdemona, makes me glad that I ordered 4 of them

Hi Kristine! I ordered all the new release plus Imogene . I still have a few on my wish list ( sharifa asma and Charlotte are at the top) but funds were short. I had to spend Christmas money on clothing this winter as my old sweaters were really really bad and I’m down to one pair of jeans lol . oh well :)

Right after I posted my freak-out above, I emailed someone at DA, and they said that they were still waiting on folks in England to get catalogue out. She assured me they weren't out of stock. Then next day she emailed me that the website was updated, and I could order, so I did. A few days later, I got my catalogue, with the coupon, but now I've already placed all my DA orders! I also have no idea when I'll get my bare roots. Here in Santa Barbara, it's that time of year. My local nursery opens back up on the 3rd for bare root roses and fruit trees -- but DA is always a bit later for them while they wait for their shipment. I like to prune my roses on New Years Day (or within that first week), and get all my new rose bushes in before our winter rains hit. I guess mine will not go in at the same time this year. I'm on the hunt for Yves Piaget and Ferdinand Pichard this year...maybe I'll use my DA coupon and get FP from their website.

The new catalogue is the same format as the one I picked up over the summer at the garden in Shropshire/Albrighton. It is beautiful and informative!

I'm thinking of pulling out my Ebb Tide and French Lace to make room for more roses...Ebb Tide has beautiful flowers, but my bush is not super big and blooms are few and far between. French Lace has beautiful flowers, but not very fragrant, and not a pretty bush. Heirloom is going bye-bye, too. I think it was unhappy, then a gopher got it, so I put it in a pot, and it looked like it was going to be fine, but when I put it back in the garden (now in a gopher wire cage) it just went downhill.

I'm hoping Dark Desire will DO something this year. I have one skinny twig from the plant I bought last year. My 4" Felicia from Annie's Annuals looks better than the 5 gallon I bought of Dark Desire...

Any other recommendations? I think there was a new one I was interested in...will have to go back and look at the top of this thread...

Deborah, Dark Desire is the only rose I .couldn't stand. Long, extremely thorny canes with a bloom at the very top

Christine, I hope to move my to dark desires this year to a less obvious place this year once I find a replacement. They died to the ground in last year's harsh winter but grew right back up to their humongous tall skinny size. I really need bushy plants in my upper bed and didn't understand what the hybrid T shape meant when I ordered it. They do have beautiful flowers and they flower a lot. However, the bush leaves a lot to be desired and it's not particularly healthy either. Besides my munstead woods these are the most expensive roses in my whole garden also. I ordered them especially from Lowe's paid full price which is so unlike me. That makes it all the more galling. Also, I never see the two tone coloration which was the whole reason I bought them as I thought they would continue the color of munstead wood throughout my bed. Oh well, live and learn. I'm hoping Bordeaux does better oh, if not I'll try indigo. I had bought Barcelona but it died before I could get it in the ground over winter last year. I'd love to have a cutting. I posted in the propagation form but nobody ever answered.

Shoot! I just wrote a long post, and then the whole page turned white, disappeared. Long story short -- went to Huntington yesterday - saw roses at end of the season -- saw a few rose parade floats in the finishing touches stage before the parade this morning. I tried 3x to post photos from visit to Huntington yesterday. Saw Arctic Blue and Life of Party/Huntington at end of season, just before pruning. Both looked fabulous. I saw Bolero (another one I was considering). It was the worst looking, wimpiest bush there. So...no on Bolero. I don't know if Houzz doesn't like my photos or just doesn't like me -- I'll try again at some point to post the photos...tomorrow is bare root opening day at my local nursery...so better get a good night's sleep! TTFN.

Mine is a baby so I don't have much in the way of photos yet, but blooms are big and very classic Hybrid Team form, and the fragrance is just mind-blowing.

Deborah, I have seen some fabulous pictures of BenTs Neil Diamond, swears by it.

I grow Rock snd Roll and as pretty as the blooms are it hasnt bloomed much. This will be year 3 so I hope it takes off.

I also grow All American Magic and it blooms like crazy.

I enjoyed those pics of Arctic Blue and Life of the Party. I’ve seen LotP at Huntington myself, it smelled fantastic...did you notice that as well? I remember the Henry Field catalog listing Careless Love for many years with a fanciful description of its mutability, but yours is the 1st real pic I’ve ever seen.

Kristine is right, I cannot resist an opportunity to push Neil Diamond. It is far and away the best stripe I have ever grown. Loads of blooms, excellent repeat , unbelievably strong old rose scent, long lasting , well formed , holds size and petal count in heat. The quality of this rose is ever the more evident when compared with other I have grown like Scentimental (fleeting petals fall to the ground in 2 days) and Parade Day (five months without any signs of growth in the hot summer).

Women’s Celebration. Looks a lot like many of the other coral blends that Zary has introduced, such as the fabulous Gemini, Brigadoon, Sheer Elegance. I believe it’s been some time since Zary used to breed for them, are they just serving his old leftovers now?

Honey Bee Haven...given it’s unusual color and description of a ‘strong clove fragrance’ I bet there’s a Fragrant Cloud lineage (A good thing in my book).

Kristine - thanks for your suggestions, too. I am officially out of room for roses right now -- so had to some serious thinking/planning today. It was opening day for the local nursery. Shockingly, though, I only came home with two new roses! I bought Life of the Party/Huntington 100 and a Koko Loco. I am waiting on my David Austins via mail order. I also dug out and did a lot of moving today. I hope the roses forgive me! Now that I see Ben's post I'm thinking I might need Neil Diamond. But I don't think I want to give up any of my current roses! The one I could give up is the hybrid tea, Girls Night Out, which is a gorgeous rose, but doesn't bloom very often...Or I could give up on my Dark Desire. Speaking of which -- vaporvac had a funny post about hiding her dark desires!

One more thing -- the most fabulous rose in the garden -- even at the end of the season -- was Jump for Joy. If I wanted a peachy rose, I would totally buy it. But right now my Carding Mill is going strong, and I have high hopes for year2 of Lady of Shalott -- so no more peachy roses for me for now.

You hit the nail on the head, BenT. You'll notice on the last few years of J&P introductions, they don't list the breeder or the parents. Likely because they don't know. They have to have drained every drop that was left of Zary's seedlings by now. Wonder where they'll go next?

I agree J&P still survive in rose business with Zery seedings. Keith Zery roses are one of a kind.

For me some old introductions roses are better than new roses today. Pictures are taken at San Diego Balboa park rose garden. Winter blooms may not be spectacular

I was able to get 5 standard “Life of the Party” roses in early spring from Lowe’s 50% off! First bought one and went back for all they had after I saw how romantic they looked in the garden! The fragrance is incredible.... just love them! I’m in Silverado Canyon, California.

Lovely rose! Reminds me a bit of Peace. I have seen nothing about the 2020 roses except one called Sweet Honey which is a light apricot. Does anyone know what new roses will be coming out?
