    A stain was not applied. The color is the result of the smoking or fuming.

    thank you for your response, I absolutely love the island and flooring. so would it be durable (i have 3 boys) without a coat of stain?

    The durability is from the type of wood and finish, I prefer Bona or an oil.

    Smoked or Fumed oak is a chemical reaction that changes the color of the wood. Finish can be an oil or a poly - they require different maintenance and care and have different levels of durability (depending on the brand).
