Does this quartzite look good with my White Dove cabinetry?

Island is dark cherry. Floors are medium brown white Oak. I am burnt out and paralyzed with indecision. my last resource is to drive to Chicago which would be a real PIA.

This quartzite just came in and the and the stone place is holding it for me. Is it too busy? Too grey?

What do you think? Thanks.

I am not a designer but it is very pretty. Are you looking for grey?

Joanna...no not looking for grey. I tend to like warmer colors. But really am trying to stay neutral.

IMO it would look wonderful with the white cabinets and the cherry island. I've never been a "grey" person because I love bold colors. However, I ended up with a grey granite on my white cabinets and grey on the walls to match an accent tile I have. What I like about the grey is that almost any bright color goes well with it. It makes a great neutral background.

I know what you mean about sometimes needing less choice, and just going with something! I’ve done that more than once lately. I do like that stone, though! (Just a lady building a house, not a pro.)

Thanks Suru! I don’t tend to choose busy stone. Or bold colors. Do you think this is busy?

I think it will be stunning with your cabinets and no, it's not too busy. Like DLM said, once it is horizontal, it will visually look a lot calmer.

Plus your kitchen is fairly large so can take a bit more interest.

Thanks DrBev...we already drove to one big city and found nothing. No luck with quartz. I’m just over this and ready to make a decision.

DLM...this was in person! I stared at it for at least a half hour. The stone lady must have thought I was nuts. This was this morning and it was like a sauna out there. I was out there last week and found nothing and she told me this was coming in and called me as soon as they had it ready.

i told her I was going to bring my daughter back out and get her opinion. Ha, little did she know I had to get the collective GW brain to help me decide!

Thanks CP..hoping you would see this and chime in. Do you think it will be hard to find backsplash tile to go with this if I use it?

If you decide to make the trip to Chicago, check out Daltile Stone. They have a fairly big selection of quartzites. I found mine there. The first quartzite slabs that I had on hold for many months from a different stone supplier had an issue once they were transported to my first fabricator, so I had to start my search over and it ended up taking me six more months to find slabs that I liked. I changed stone suppliers and fabricator. What color are your walls? Mine are dorian gray and yours look very similar on my monitor. Love the progress in your kitchen. It is looking beautiful!

To answer your question, I don't know. LOL. It looks like there are warmer tones in the stone and those are what i'd try matching to.

“will settle down a lot horizontally”...good point. You think so....

Wilson...thanks for the tip! And for the link. Love this..may try to talk dh into a trip to Chicago after all. I have to think about it.

Not loving it with your stained door, but I'm not a fan of gray. In the first photo it seems to have a bit of purple undertone. What color are your floors?

I would take a drive to Chicago. You don't seem to love this slab, so why settle?

Yes that's really pretty! Much calmer than the slabs that you posted above. I'd make the trip. It's something that you will be looking at every day.

I think the stone is fine. I think you can probably do better though. It is quite gray.

Rita....yes. I see where you are coming from.

Ok guys. You convinced me! I’m excited. Just talked to dd in Chitown. Road trip tomorrow to look at quartzite on Saturday.

I will let you know what I find out.

Katie...oops missed your post. I love the Taj Mahal too. I seriously considered it.

Happy dance. Love my GW buddies.

Aw man, I live in the Chicago area but will be out of town this weekend!

I have brown cabinets but not as dark as yours and everyone and their mother talked me out of grey counters. I prefer the Calacatta quartize over the first one posted. I hope you like it as much in person.

Well, I like the grey one you posted above and it's doesn't seem too busy to me. But, now that I see that Calcutta - wow! That is really gorgeous!

Making these decisions are so nerve-wrecking! I think you just need to pick what speaks to you as almost any stone will go with white cabinets and most will go with the stained cabinets. Good luck!

I’m in the Chicago area. American Granite has a large selection of quartzite. MS International and Daltile are in the same neighborhood. Be sure to check the Saturday hours wherever you go. They may be limited or by appointment only.

Rita..yes, I did have a great time, thank you. I had both of my dd’s with me and it was fun..even though we were under the wire since we chose Saturday morning to do this. Everything closed at 12 or 1. Good thing my Chi dd drives like a maniac.

CP..this is definitely more my taste, lol. So glad I kept looking. Spent time looking online for pics of kitchens with this stone installed. Didn’t find much but I’m going to stop obsessing. It’s called Quartzite Gioia. Have you heard of it? Now to find the right backsplash.

Mrs. P...the visual cinches it! Dementor was also in a Christmas movie that my boys loved. Wait until you start your build. This whole process turns you into Demontor...or will make you that way, lol.

It’s called Quartzite Gioia. Have you heard of it?

Nope but then again up until 3 years ago I didn't know there was such a thing as quartzite. :)

ILoveRed - it reminds me of one I've seen labelled as Zermat. Try googling images of that!

Our slab looks a lot like yours but ours is called Calacata. The fabricator cut the counter tops today. Installation tomorrow. We loved it as a slab, fingers crossed it will be even better installed. We have a crazy wild quartzite island - hope it all comes together as we imagined it.

Glad you found the stone that makes you happy!

    Our stone.

Are you sure it is a true quartzite? It looks like a marble and this thread seems to think it is a marble...

    https://www.houzz.com/discussions/carrara-gioia-is-it-marble-or-is-it-quartz-help-dsvw-vd~4667909

A lot of marbles get mislabelled as "soft" quartzite, but then a lot of people are ok with marble in their kitchen.

Nan...that stone is gorgeous. It does look a lot like mine,

Robin...mine is quartzite. It really doesn’t look anything like the pictures of the product in your link. But that is beautiful.

I would have loved marble. Dh nixed the idea.

ILoveRed, that is a beautiful stone you ended up finding!! I think it would look lovely as your backsplash also and then you would not have to search for anything else. :)

Did you do the tests that GW's geologist Karin recommends to make sure it's quartzite and not marble?

ILR, did you read mjamm's quartzite staining thread? Her white quartzite was also labeled a quartzite. It is a hard stone, but also a porous one. I would test to make sure you know what you are getting. Mjamm's fabricator found a good sealer and will replace her island, but it is something that she will always have to be aware of.

Thanks Mayflowers and Chispa...I will make sure that it is sealed really well.

Honestly Mayflowers, I know about the glass cutting test but I didn’t do it. I know I’m rolling the dice but I have no excuse other than exhaustion. I’m trusting the folks at the stone place. I do know about the gal with the berry stains.

I really wanted marble and dh said NO. If this ends up behaving or misbehaving like marble.....

Rebecca...I love the look of the slab backsplash but not for me. I will definitely do a quiet tile, lol.

So glad you waited. I was holding my breath when you asked about BS. Your first choice would have been difficult to transition from the white to the gray.
