New Construction/kitchen layout help

I've read through the "Read me first" but if I've missed something please ask;-)

My husband and I have started the planning stages of building our retirement home. We both enjoy cooking so we would like a two person kitchen. The kitchen is positioned as such because he wants an open kitchen and I want a closed kitchen. I plan on having beautiful antique pocket doors so I can close it off when I want to. I think the sight line will be lovely. We are not building in a retirement community. This is a community of young, old and all in between.

This is a narrow lot in South Louisiana. This home will be a raised center hall cottage done in a New Orleans Greek Revival style. I'm not sure right now what color or type of cabinets we will have. I do know that I will have some type of quartzite or soapstone. But that's all I know right now. The layout is what I'm in need of help with. I'm so not a space planner. Whatever is drawn in the kitchen space please ignore. I'm looking for function. We also do not have a great number of KD's in our area. Most people I know have gone outside the area for help. But, I knew I could come here and get the best!

We have 6 burner gas cooktop with a grill in it right now. I plan on having, in this new kitchen, induction cooktop. The gas cooktop is a bear to clean;-) I am short. Like, so short that I want no uppers. I realize I'll have to have some uppers but I don't like it. 5' 1-1/2" is short when it comes to upper cabinets. I need at least a 4 burner cooktop, hood, separate oven (1), big cleanup sink, prep sink, dishwasher and fridge and freezer.

The area that needs work will include the scullery. I plan on having my heavy pots and pans in roll-outs in the scullery. Frequently used pots will be stored by the cooktop. Coffee pot, small sink, mixer (I may put the mixer in a rev-a-shelf, like I have now, in the kitchen) and maybe a countertop? microwave in the scullery.

This plan is just a Scheme plan. We have not started construction and will not start until I have everything locked into place. I like this home layout and I feel like we won't start construction for 8 months.

Thank you to all that contribute to this kitchen forum. It's so nice to know that we, that are not talented in space planning, can come here to bounce ideas around.

Hi, riverrat1. Looks like you've been given a barrier island. I know you won't want to offset the LR door too much from the central axis, but if you could move the French doors down, and move the range up, and if you can separate the fridge and freezer, you can have an uninterrupted path between the fridge, sink, and range. I'd move the DW to the other side of the sink, to separate the clean-up zone. You mentioned coffee in the scullery, but you could make it more accessible, but still hidden from view, beside the freezer, in the space vacated by the fridge.

Having the fridge that far from the pantry/scullery is not ideal, but better than walking around the island. I put the drawer MW across from the fridge, but if you'll have one in the pantry, ignore that change.

Are the fridge and freezer true built-ins? If not, just make sure the doors will open past the stub walls.

Thank you MG, Yep, the island is in the way. Yes, the Fridge and Freezer will be built in. I'm sure the pocket doors could fudge over a little bit and not mess up the sight line going down the center hall. I'm wondering if I opened the scullery up into the kitchen and completely reconfigured the space? A long linear island? I can't picture it and it seems like an awfully large area.

I like the idea of having drawer stacks, in the island, across from the main clean up sink for unloading dishes from the dishwasher.

Maybe the cooktop on the window wall instead of the sink?

I was hesitant to suggest a bigger kitchen, but I like the idea of the range on the window wall. You refer to it as a cooktop, so I included a wall oven on the fridge wall. The clean-up sink is in the corner in the scullery, but if the window can be moved up, or made larger, the sink can be moved too. Rough idea:
