Hi all,

I’m on my fourth summer taking care of my first lawn and learning a lot as I go. The previous owner used a lawn service that I didn’t renew when I moved in, so when that stopped, the grass in one section on the front yard pretty much collapsed. I realized this spring that it is a serious case of brown patch. The grass looked pretty good until about the beginning of July when brown patches appeared and spread across that whole section. So far this summer it has been very hot and VERY wet. I’m in south central MN (4b) where this is still considered unusual weather.

when the grass started turning brown, I started researching and found this forum, where I read about corn meal, so I applied that about two weeks ago (10 lbs to 600 sq ft), and I do think the grass is starting to green up :) I’m going out to get some cracked corn to apply to the whole yard as a preventive/cure.

The thing im wondering about now is watering. After 2+ inches a week ago, this is the first week all summer that we haven’t had substantial rain. Should I water the 600 sq ft with the brown patch or will that aggravate the situation? If so, how much water? The usual amount, 1/2-1 inch? I had a soil test done last fall. I have a heavy clay/sand soil, a little alkaline at 7.3, 5% organic matter, very high in potassium and off the charts in phosphorous. I applied Ringer in the spring and it was looking really good until the brown patch hit.

Any suggestions?
