Drapery Mistake

Hi everyone, we just hung up some custom drapery (yet to be hemmed) and I'm disappointed with how the colour looks. When I selected the fabric I was looking for an off white and now that it's up, it looks very yellow against my BM Simply White walls.

Would this bother you or am I overthinking this?

I'm considering scrapping this fabric and selecting a different non yellow white!

It does have a yellowish look, but I’m wondering if it’s because of the rug under ur sofa? That has a stark white look (at least it does on my computer).

My rug is also ivory but cooler than the drapes. I'm happy with the rug and not planning on changing it.

Maybe adding a lining to drapes would make the color more true. The light filtering through makes it appear an uneven color.

Hi Tootsie, I wanted a semi sheer for the room.

Can you take some other photos from different angles? Your curtains are lovely.

In my opinion they are lovely and I love the rod they are hung on.

They look yellow but they look great. I think the color highlights the tile on your fireplace. It looks very intentional to me.

My thought is also that they go with the stone on the fireplace.

They do look a little yellow, but that makes the space warmer. If they were the same white as your rug, the space might feel cold. The daylight might also make them see, more yellow and rug more white. What does it look like at different times of day?

It basically looks like this all day. During winter I anticipate they will look less yellow. Also, in the evening the yellow shows up much less.

How close is the drapery fabric color the color of the pillow with blue triim on the sofa?

Have you considered adding either a drape tieback in the same blue as the pillow trim or in the same color of something else in the room?

If you really wanted to get creative, you could try hanging a vertical ribbons (either the same blue as the pillow or the same color as another item in the room) along with the drapery panels -- not sewing it to the panels, just hanging them over or beside the drapes -- in order to have the more noticable visual contrast be between the fabric and the ribbon color rather than between the fabric and the wall color.

The ivory pillow is the EXACT same colour as the drapes.

Well I love it because I have the same thing. I did it deliberately...

Don't love the height, but that's personal preference...

Have you considered trimming in a green(?) tape to outline and define them? It will change what you see...

I like your drapes and the little blue birds on the mantle.

I like your room and I like the color of the curtains with the room as is with no trim or different color tieback. Timeless and classic and pretty!

Okay, I cleared out all the kid toys!

The room is not yet finished. I still need a coffee table, and maybe a little ottoman seat by the far right window.

And, I hope to revisit the TV console at some point too!

Turn those overhead recessed lights on and see how they look - it may make a difference. Do ever have a small table and lamp at that end of the loveseat by the window?

    Lovely.

I bleached my canvas curtains in washing machine. Check fabric, and if it is cotton or canvas...bleach it.

In the close-up, I didn't mind the color of the draperies so much because of the link to the fireplace surround, but in the wide view, they look a little out of place to me. I would probably have to find a different fabric, but they aren't crazy bad.

    I like your room!

I definitely don't want to mess with bleach on these. Worst case scenario I might repurpose them for a bedroom.

MGdecor, as already mentioned, they appear to blend nicely with the fireplace stone. Is that the case in person? If so, I think they're fine. Agree the ivory pillows help, too.

Beautiful job on the drapes! They look great in your living room. They do have a slight yellow tint but just think of it as adding a little color to the room! I have made 4 pairs of drapes, 2 pairs of curtains, 2 valances, and 2 cafe curtains this summer for my house. Three pairs of my drapes are made with light ivory Jacquard home decor fabric and they look awesome against the dark pewter paint in my bedroom and the blue paint in my dining room. No yellow!

Really nice room even if you don't make any more changes.

You might consider having your drapery tiebacks be both of the colors of your pillows -- creamy white w/blue trim; alternately, you could use the same color blue for panels beside the drapes or, using a double rod, as your drapes, using the current creamy white panels as sheers on an inner rod.,

The curtains are lovely, and on my screen, the curtains and pillow look to be a warm off-white, which co-ordinates well with the fireplace colors.

The rug looks like a rather cool, grayish off-white. That and the reddish tone of the leather sofa might be making the panels seem a little more yellow to you, despite their actual warm off-white color.

Are the leather sofas the same color?

I think that they look just fine. Keep them. The room looks great! I think you should move the sofa a couple inches away from the wall - a little breather room.

Will you be adding matching panels to the other window? I think they look wonderful, rich, and much more interesting than lighter, wall-matching color would be.

Yes, more panels are coming for the other window too :)

my view is to always layer, not match, whites.
