You don't have room for anything else if both of those doors are functional - they look like they are. I'd also flip your rug the other way and see what that looks like. Looks a little tight as is.

You might consider either tjust opping the pony wall with unpainted wood -- adding a natural wood finish and/or wainscoting the pony wall in the same wood.

Alternately, you might consider rebuilding the pony wall to be an upscale all wood bookcase with glass front doors.

No -- no room for anything and I think I would remove that floor arrangement as well -- looks like it's in the way.

No room for a table or bench. If you think it looks too empty, have you considered removing the small mirror and the floor arrangement and using a larger piece of art on that wall? Looks like it would need to be something that's longer than it is wide.

I agree with everyone else. There is no room for anything in that entry way. I would absolutely remove the vase. I love the idea of bigger art. If you are ever thinking of a new rug for that spot a nice seagrass with brightly colored welting could work well there.

There isn't room for either one. That rug is too big, maybe you can turn it the other way and still use it there. And then remove that vase thing on the floor. And remove that small 3 mirror piece on the wall, it's too small, hang something larger there. And you need to upgrade the lighting fixture.

The rug is remaining in that position and the vase will stay as well. Thanks everyone for their input on whether I should put something against the pony wall.

The rug is wrong. The vase thing sitting on floor is wrong. The "three mirrors" is wrong. The chandelier is outdated. If what you have makes you happy and everyone else is giving you different advice, why did you ask? If you feel it "ain't" broke, why ask others for their opinion???!!!

I only asked about placing a table or bench against the Pony wall and I thoroughly appreciate everyone's input.. I welcome decorating advice, however, in this particular area of my home there are VERY personal reasons for the rug, mirror and vase.......very personal......reasons I don't want or need to share. So before responding in jest about someone's decor, you may want to think twice.

You asked if a bench or table would fit into that space, without specifying for the pony wall. You also said you feel your entry needs something, without stating that some items would stay as they are.

Based on what was asked, I believe most, though not all, posters tried to courteously address what we thought were your design concerns.

Do you want or need the pony wall there? You may, and nothing wrong with that just didn’t know if that possibility might help explore additional options.

I’ve seen before the space between studs be knocked out to create a niche area or shelf type space. That might provide a little drop zone area typical of entry. Have you seen what I’m talking about? If not, I will try and find a few pics.

Or what about a really larger floor length mirror leaning against wall opposite pony wall?

Do you want it for function or aesthetics? You could have some hanging floating shelves built that hang from the ceiling above the pony wall. I agree that you need a smaller rug or have your cut down.

Dear Colorblind, I am not a pro or even a decorating regular but I think if you publish a question with pictures, you're opening up yourself for a variety of responses (and some may not be to your liking). Personally, I think your rug should be replaced with something longer (and maybe less wide) and more color/pattern to welcome people into your home and lead them in.
