A local outlet did have some in gallon pots this past spring. Stock I saw wasn't "highly fragrant" (patent description) and its fragrance did not have a citrus component (Monrovia page), was distinctly inferior to that of Daphne odora in my view.

So I passed on it.

The parents will grow in east coast gardens but D. odora at least, tends not to be long-lived.

I am hoping it has hybrid vigor and will be longer lasting.

In addition to the usual daphne problems of root rot and viruses D. odora doesn't have a high degree of cold tolerance, with for instance Robin White (Daphnes - A Practical Guide for Gardeners (2006, Timber Press, Portland) mentioning 'Leucanthe' dying completely and 'Aureomarginata' having "some leaf browning" as a result of 5 degrees F.

In the Mid-Atlantic, siting is everything for Daphne odora.

Soil and exposure not encouraging root rot (wet + hot = rot) needs to be provided and after that there is still the virus problem. Here in my area luckily a percentage of the nuisance Daphne laureola is becoming virused, will perhaps become less prevalent as a result. But this also means that these viruses are able to get around pretty well, and of course the infected weedy daphne patches could be seen as serving as reservoirs of material for infection of intentional plantings of desirable daphnes.

White (above) actually says that most instances of "daphne sudden death syndrome" are due to Botrytis cinerea. And reports that among the "several different viruses" that have been found in daphnes cucumber mosaic virus is "particularly common". So that a daphne could even pick it up (via aphids) from various common weeds that are carriers. With symptoms in daphnes being yellow mottling, small leaves, stunted growth and early leaf fall. Also that the mottling tends to be most visible where there is sun exposure, and perhaps not showing at all in shaded positions. Plus there is a tendency for infected daphnes to be more prone to frost.

He recommends removal and burning of plants so afflicted, states that "Daphne jezoensis, D. mezereum and D. odora seem the most susceptible".
