After loosing my red tomatoes to the tree rats for some years now, I have found that a surround of 2' chicken wire around the whole row rather than just around individual plants has me harvesting tomatoes for myself again this year. Each plant is inside a hoop support and tied to a stake to keep from flopping over the edge of the wire and becoming available to the tree rats. The chicken wire is wired to the hoop on top and staked in the ground on the bottom. This is working; I am getting more tomatoes every other day or so than I can carry without a pail from half a dozen plants. That is quite a bit better than I have done with tomatoes in a long time.

Tomato varieties are 4th of July (lots of fruits) and Big Beef for slicers.
