That's a very interesting perspective. I was thinking of something a bit simpler, like a rectangular pool in the back of the house. I don't think my municipality allows for pools to be seen from the street. But a very cool concept nonetheless.

You're not crazy at all. It is actually the side of my house and can be seen from the street. It's a lovely design but the family and I prefer something bigger/rectangular and toward the back of the house, which can be seen in the first picture.

yes, and the photo where you placed the pool is on the side. The property slopes quite a bit and needs some serious TLC but we haven't been able to put the time/energy and everything else to create a fluid design. I would like to make the deck bigger and more flush with the covered porch and tie a ground level patio just off the pool structure. Any ideas and mockups are greatly appreciated!

I can't do a mock up, but I would suggest you add a portico area to the side of the garage to accent the pool space. The garage would look like a pool house.

Thanks, tq...I totally agree with adding a portico to the garage. We are hoping to use a portion of the garage as a pool house of sorts. In the mockup that Doug did, does it look like the deep end of the pool is where the wall is? I only ask because that is near our back door and driveway and I'm not sure it's a good idea to have the deep end so close to that much foot traffic.

where do you live? will the pool be closed 9 months of the year, for example?

while we adore our RI pool, i wish the previous owners had built it further from the house. we have 3 months of pool and 9 months of pool cover. so if you can site yours a bit further from the house, with a patio in between, you'll enjoy your yard more.

also, be 100% on top of what your local code requires as far as gates, alarms, etc. most of the 'pretty pools' shown at houzz would get a big frown from the inspector. you'll save a lot of time and a lot of money on discarded designs if you go in knowing whats what. you can not depend on contractors to know the code on pools.

We live in the NE and yes, I agree the pool should sit toward the back of the property especially since that space will be more usable with a pool. We used to have a swingset there but recently removed it. I like the idea of having the pool where Doug placed it but having some green space between it and making use of the space on the side of the garage as an outdoor kitchen and patio area. I will definitely need more help in figuring out what to do with the area on the side of the covered porch. It's a steep drop so it may require more than 1 level.

Most pool builders will do a free consult and usually get your wants/needs, and do a bid with photos/concept of your space and all. Here's an example of one I had. One pool builder even sent me a video concept on youtube with fountain sounds and all!
