Someone who knows how to prune correctly could remove the dead branches and selectively prune out some other branches to shape the rest of the boxwood as much as possible. In time it will grow back in to cover the missing part and will recover. If you want to replace it, a smaller shrub will not block the view of the shrubs and Japanese maple in the back.

If you want suggestions for smaller shrubs you could replace it with, you need to tell us what zone you are in or what is the nearest large city so we know your climate. Also what direction your house faces.

Those golden mops will soon out grow their space. I suggest you post this photo on the landscape design forum and consider replacing three shrubs.

IMO you need something with a very different texture- larger leaves. Everything you have there now is quite fine. Minus any zone or location information it is quite difficult to make any sort of suggestion.

Rule of thumb is to plant in odd numbers; I'd remove those mops too.

Odd numbers produce a geometric look, better (more flowing) drift shapes can often be made using even numbers.

Agree the two over-pruned (maintenance sheared) Sawara are interfering with the maple, should be removed. With replacement plants all consisting of quite low-growing selections that complement the maple, stay below its crown height.

Eventually the maple will fill the entire bed, just by itself.
