Yes, its the Kohler real rain. The ceiling in the shower area is actually dropped about 6", to accommodate the guts of the shower mechanism up there, and allow for leveling. Because of that, the water supply pipe really does not go up into the attic.

Why can't you have a shower head in the ceiling in CA?

If it is some high volume fixture then not allowed, but if it is just a fancy rain shower head then it probably is, but the CA version is probably flow restricted! For new installations we aren't even allowed to have 2 fixtures that could be turned on at the same time, but you can use a diverter.

It only flows 2 gallons per minute, but has a deluge function that will drop a half gallon on you in 8 seconds. I think it does this by really flowing 2.5 gpm, but it stores up that .5 gallon in a reservoir in the shower head.

I put one of those "rain" shower heads in one of the showers and I can tell you that I don't like it. It is as if you are getting misted on. I would welcome a real deluge flow. It is like you get wet everywhere but not really anywhere at once. I absolutely do not like it.

Yours looks different. I won't buy another one like I have. It is from Kohler. When I take a shower, I want some real flow, not a misting. I also think that it cools the water off so much to have it spray out of that large head with all of those holes.

@Taher Vohra - Yes, I'm still enjoying the real rain shower head. Yep, not many reviews about it out there. I've been using it for about 22 months now. For my shower, I have it setup with the the real rain head, a multipurpose wand head on a rail, DTV+ controller, and a free standing shower seat, 4'x7.5' space. I love the combo. The real rain head really needs something to back it up. The wand on a vertical rail works well for that. If you just want to relax in the shower, turn on the rain head, move the seat under the rain head, sit on it and use the massage wand. If I'm trying to take a quick shower, I'll just use the rain head, and the rinse with the deluge at the end.

It can take about two minutes for the water coming out of the rain head to warm up to full temp. Even though the DTV on the wall might say its at 102, it will still take a few seconds more to get there. The rain head fills up on the cold water, and it takes abit to flush out.

This rain head does not have any pressure to it. Each drop does really fall just using gravity, no other force behind it. You are going to feel like the real rain really does not rinse you off. Now activate the deluge mode, and its like someone dumping a small bucket of water on you, and that will rinse you off thoroughly.

It seems like the deluge function is not quite as strong as it used to be(used to feel like you were underwater and could not breathe, so I thought). Maybe I am just getting used to it. I did take the filter out of the head and tried cleaning it, and that did seem to help somewhat.

The rain head also holds water for awhile after you turn it off. Its not an instant on/off kind of thing, it just fades out. It might still be dripping 15 minutes afterwards. If you wanna take a shower right before bed, make sure you won't be sitting there listening to it drip while trying to fall asleep.

It does only use about 2 gpm, slightly less than most other heads, but if you use it with anything else you will suddenly be way over that. But if you are just in a hurry or trying to be conservative, you can just use it alone.

If I built another house, I'd put another one in the next one. If you use the DTV for the controller, try and get a ethernet cable to where the controller will be. If you pay extra for the kohler konnect, alexa can control the shower for you.
