How did you secure the aluminum strip?

My husband is making our treads and using aluminum strips--how are the aluminum strips secured to the wood? We find that our strips move a little--they are temporarily fitted into the kerf, but think that they need to be secured. What would work--epoxy, a bedding compound of some sort, metal to wood adhesive?

In my case I routered a channel into the oak exactly the right width and depth for a tight fit for the aluminium strips. Zoom in to see on the step edge. If yours are slightly loose fitting, you could use a polyurethane adhesive which is the type of wood glue that foams ever so slightly as it cures. It will stick just fine to metal. Just a little put carefully at the bottom is fine as it will foam and expand. You need to heavily weight the aluminium strips down whilst the glue cures as you will be surprised at the foaming strength of the polyurethane. Good luck and take care.
