Wilting Bonsai Tree

A young lady is staying with us for a couple of weeks until her apartment is ready. She was given a bonsai and I don't think she knows how to take care of it-- but neither do I. She left for a week, and when we returned from our own vacation, I saw that the little tree's leaves were limp, so I watered it. The water went right through the planting. I put it on a dish where the water would collect but not soak the roots, only giving humidity. We live in the woods, so there is really not much direct sun. I put it in a window that gets as much sun any any place around here.

What else should I be doing to help this bonsai to recover? I am watering it every day to keep it moist without letting the roots sit in water.
