The vanity looks good. Not clear on why you would not want grain to show??? I can't see white or gray giving the vanity an updated look?

At any rate, until you choose a wall colour, I don't think you can decide on paint colour for vanity.

You may find the updated look you want by changing the mirror to a large circular style. The present mirror is heavy & follows same lines as vanity. I can visualize a lovely metal mirror in copper, gold....can't see lighting above mirror. Maybe it could use upgrade as well.

This mirror is modern, would work with current design & upgrade it. What do you think?

You should paint the walls turquoise and then a neon green, yellow for the vanity. That should give it a updated, contemporary feel.

I like the vanity just as it is!

HI -- Do everything else first and then see if you need or want to paint the vanity. I think you need to have a bit of the wood grain showing or it's going to look to plastic or dull .If you find you do want to paint it perhaps match to the counter top or a shade or two darker .

Here's your vanity, mirror and faucet in pewter finish, a somewhat warm grey that works with the cream tones in your tile and counter:

Even leaving the vanity the same color as it is, you could paint the walls in a light blue/green spa color such as Sherwin-Williams Rainwashed or Silvermist. I'd select a chrome faucet and cabinet hardware and sell the mirror. You could then choose to paint the vanity white if you wanted or leave it alone.

The biggest difference that you could make would be to change what I am presuming to be lighting in the form of a bath bar above the mirror. I would change the bath bar to two vertical sconces flanking an offset unframed mirror. I would select a sconce similar to the one you see below from George Kovacs, which costs under $100 each.

For the mirror, I would select a vertical size of mirror in the 30 x 48" range, or 30 x 36" or even 24 x 36". These are sizes that you should be able to find, already cut and beveled, at your big box store. To offset the mirror from the wall you will need to fit one piece of wood, cut at an angle and attached to the wall, into another piece of wood, cut at the opposite angle and firmly and safely glued to the back of the mirror. A contractor should be able to do this for you. The mirror should cost less than $50.
