Cost to replace plenum?

We just had our AC guy here who says our attic is cooler than our house due to all the duct leaks (4) at the plenum. He quoted $1,200 to replace the supply plenum and fix the ductwork going into the plenum. Does that quote sound high or about right? Thank you.

Did you look at the plenum and confirm that it's "bent at the bottom" and "torn up"? If so, then it probably does need to be replaced. If the plenum has metal trunk lines running off it that he's also replacing, then $1200 is probably in the ballpark. But if it's just a single box with flex branch lines connected then that's high.

His exact words: Replace the plenum with new and reattach flex tubing and reseal.
Seal the supply and return plenums.

Get a couple more quotes. If you live in the hot, humid South, consider insulating at the roof line and sealing the attic.

Costs to replace things of this nature are typically higher than if you spend more money doing additional things, which include the smaller things... like supply plenum.

Cut rate installs (like if your equipment is newer) and you got the deal of the century. The deal often fades when little things like 'new supply plenum' is needed to fix air leaks in the attic.

Not saying this is what happened in your case, just speaking of my 'general' experience in dealing with issues of this nature in going on 23 years of 'hands on experience'.

As the deal may have been acknowledged by the home flipper or the previous home owner. The stories of how such things come into fruition is endless....

I have the same issue where the Plenum is not sealed correctly and there are a few gaps that are noticeable. The issue we have is that we’re getting a lot of condensation underneath the coils, which cause high level of humidity inside the house. Would putting new plenum correctly with no leaks get rid of the condensation and height humidity?

Nonsounds like you have a dirty evapo coil and that is causing the extra condensation. that and dirty filters
