Hello Paradiseprincess, sorry forum seems to be very slow this year:( I can’t advise until I’d see the plant, but I always encourage branching on mine.... you kinda have to know how you want plant to look and what first few branches look like. I love all kinds of shapes in adeniums, from bushy to tree like. You pretty much creating unique masterpiece with each plant but we all have different tastes and likes.... I think picture of the plant will definitely help! We need to see a potential:) I don’t have many plants to show off, mostly they are ugly grafts under age of two, but I’m sure looking forward to start working on them once they have something to work with. This year I just happy they are alive, lol. My growing season is very short so I can only prune them in spring. I have about seven yearlings that I like to keep, can’t wait till next year to prune and start some roots training.. I can take some pictures of my favorites but I don’t think they are that special, lol. Anyways, post pictures and we will think out loud!

Yes we love pics. I like shaped and bushy, but leave my caudex buried for a long time. I like knarly

I'm realizing I have a preference for certain styles and shapes, but, it's much easier to start with something that looks like a duck if you want it to quack like a duck

I like the tree look, but I also love a full canopy of simple blooms. I also trim mine frequently to encourage multiple branches, so not always looking wonderful

However, I plan to do some root training as it looks pretty straight forward. Our growing season is coming to a close with Fall fast approaching, so I'll wait till Spring.

I *did* chop off the roots of 2 Walmart obesum who's roots were too big & too long for a 6" pot to fit comfortably. The caudex wasn't much larger around than the roots, so a 6" pot would've been too wide, but still not long enough to keep roots.

I don't know if they'll look pretty when the roots grow back, but I'm hoping!!!

i would like to go back to my original question.. Do you think that large flowers would look best on a tall single trunk tree-like plant (with a canopy of smaller branches at the top) rather than a shorter bushy plant with many branches.. I wonder which look would give a better presentation of big flowers.. Or can you suggest something different? I guess was not as clear as I should have been in the first place.

hookilau, here are pics of two of my plants with large flowers which I wonder how to grow for the future.. The taller plant is 18 inches with a flower which is 4 inches wide by 4.5 inches.. The smaller plant is 5 inches with a flower which is 4'inches wide by 4 inches high.. The big flower on the small plant looks out of proportion to me but it has no side branches at this time to offer training options, nor does it seem inclined to grow taller at this time..
