Well, The pears are still looking great but not there for picking yet. I'm picking one pear every 2-3 days to check for ripeness but they are still quite hard and the flesh is tart. In the meantime we're reviewing pear sauce recipes for future canning.

Ugh, I can't believe it, I was in the garage today flipping over wall calendar and see where I made a note to check/pick the pears on Sept 13th. They seemed still too hard to harvest now. I recall that last year I bagged up 6 pears on the tree to save them from the marauding hordes of squirrels. The squirrels got the other few exposed pears (about a dozen last year) but they left the 6 bagged ones alone. The pears were at their peak picking time by 9/13. Luckily there are few squirrels around this season., also lucky to have so many pears for the first time in 14 years.
