Lars’ recent medical issues made me think of posting this.

Those of you who have a good size garden know about this. It takes a long trek for me to go from one end of my garden to the other. It takes time and it is a pain to carry tools and supplies, especially on a hot summer day.

I decide to buy a motorized mobility scooter to help out. I bought a $2,000 used one for $85.00. (Craigslist) But I was taken for a ride. It lasted about two days and died.

Fortunately I was able to fix it with a $2.00 part.

I modified it for gardening use. I was very pleased that a mobility scooter is very fast, very maneuverable and very powerful. It goes up and down hill quickly and safely. I can be taken for a ride for a round trip in 1/10th the time, no sweat.

I can see why a mobility scooter is very helpful for those who need walking assistance.

Wow! That is cool! I bought a mobility scooter for my late wife many years ago and unfortunately it stopped working. I decided to donate it to a couple that was fairly handy and was sure they could get it back to working. Now I'm experiencing some mobility issues and wish I kept it and repurposed it like you did.

Nice tip. My late husband was provided with one many years ago from by the VA, although he never used it. He told me to keep it because someday I might need it. I never thought of using it to get to the garden and back.

Glad that a $2 part saved the day. Even though I am still (hopefully) a long way off from any kind of age related mobility issues, as I age I appreciate it when people choose to find ways to work around challenges, rather than to give in to them. I think I notice it more because my mom was the “I’m too old/tired/sore to...” person.

You are handy to have around! Somehow I always thought you lived in NYC and had a rooftop garden or something. lol! That looks like a battery-operated electric mower... what is it and do you like it? My mower died last summer and I thought long and hard about getting a battery-operated one, but went with a Honda dual-blade gas mower instead. Very happy with that decision, but I'm still thinking about getting a b-o electric for fun.

Thank you all for your comments. A truly useful tool for me. yesterday I used the scooter to transport two bags of 60 lb cement and many blocks from the drive way all the way to the back of the garden.

No not rubber band. But I did stretch the truth a little. Not $2.00, $1.58 from Amazon for a battery terminal nut and bolt to correct the problem.

party_music50, yeah that's a cordless mower. Very nice. Not noisy, instant start. Also self-propelled. Part of my garden is inclined. Self-propel gets the job done easier. Charging the battery is a much easier task than filling the gas tank.

Yes, that vehicle has been a great help in the garden.

The past summer, I had to re-build the back yard chain link fence higher, deer!

Installed 10 poles. Each pole needed 3 bags of 80-lb concrete. That worked out to be a total of 30 bags, 30 x 80 =2,400 lbs. from the driveway all the way to the back of the garden.
