Take a deep breath. It's only paint :)

BM Gray Owl is a very popular gray.

Google Benjamin Moore most popular grays. They will explain all the undertones.

    Sherwin Williams probably will too.

I remember Gray Owl and also Revere Pewter as being very popular here.

Yes, they have undertones. But, how these undertones will play out will depend on your exposure. So, you need to also consider that. Also, your lighting will also play a role in how the color will appear in each room.

I just enlarged your examples. I have only heard of Agreeable Gray.

For the novice. I think it is best to go with tried and true popular colors. There is a reason why some colors are popular and why they are decorator favorites.

For example, BM Manchester Tan works in different exposures. Both DD's used it in their apartments and they look different but good in both.

eld6161 - Thank you so much for your advice and feedback :) .. i will most definitely take your advice and try Gray Owl..i will do more research for the undertones too.. lighting is a factor and that scares me because i don't have lighting yet ..but what did you mean by exposure? :/

Figure out what direction your room is facing. North, south, east or west. Then you can google the best colors. Gray might not be a good choice for your exposure.

Also, exposures can change throughout your home. What may look great in one room will turn more blue or purple in another. If you want to stick with gray throughout, you might have to go with variations and not the same exact paint.

Lighting is everything! Here is an example of what happened to me. I had a nice neutral paint color in my downstairs TV room. (Sorry it's been years and I don't remember the color). I wanted to paint my bedroom and decided to go with the same color. Upstairs in more natural light, this paint looked pink!!! Took a sample stick downstairs and watched it changed to a creamy white! The magic of natural light! I wound up going in a different direction and used Guilford Green. (One of the favorites, again why try to reinvent the wheel?)

Badgergal! Hi! We posted at the same time. Remeber Beekeepers Wife? She used Gray Owl in her new home and it looked stunning. Good idea with Stonington.

My house looked much like yours when choosing a paint color for my whole house - which included 20 foot ceilings in an open floor plan. Ultimately Benjamin Moore Classic Gray was the best choice for us. It is on the lighter side, but has virtually no undertones. Anyway, read this article, it was very helpful! https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/top-8-light-neutral-paint-colours-for-home-staging-selling/

I’ve got Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray in most of my first floor, and it gets exposure from each direction of the compass, depending on the room and the time of day. It’s as close to undertone free as I could find, and it’s a very nice, calm backdrop for my art and furnishings. Good luck - greys are tough!

Edited to add: there’s a Sherwin Williams so close to my house, so I used their paint. Apparently the different bases used by the different companies makes it so that, even using the same formula, the results are slightly different.

We have BM Classic Gray in our bathroom. It is a light, beautiful shade.

These are Sherwin Williams newest colors, there is a gray one that I love, scroll down on the page. I feel the lighter the gray is more beautiful. perfect gray

Another vote for BM Stonington Gray! I originally bought it for our BR but gave our contractor the wrong can, so I wound up with blue instead. I wound up selling the gray paint on Nextdoor.

Before you decide to paint your whole house gray, please consider why you are painting it that color. If you absolutely love it and nothing else will do, then you have your answer. If, however, you are doing it because you think it's "in", then please know that gray is actually on its way out. The trend now is for more colorful rooms with a warm white background, and the warm white is actually a much more forgiving color because you can go so many directions, color-wise, with furniture and accessories, whereas gray is really rather limiting. Just food for thought, before you make that final decision.

I love gray, but, it is a very hard color to get just right. My living room is gray. The first time, I painted, I used Samovar Silver ( a very pretty gray in my bathroom, and Iove it in there), but, in my living room, one wall looked green, and other bluish. I hated it. I repainted it London Mist. That was good on all but two walls. I repainted a third time and used Valspar City Scape. It was perfect gray on all the walls, and I liked it so much, I have used it other places. It all depends upon the light coming into your room. Be aware, what looks good in one room, might look very different in another room

I wish I’d done my whole first floor in the same color, actually (not upstairs, though). When it’s time to repaint I think I will. Except for the den, it’s a very open floor plan, and I think a single unifying color is nice. Here’s a pic of Stonington Gray in my kitchen/dining:

Never mind, I can’t post the pic for some reason. Here’s a link to my kitchen reveal with pics. Keep in mind that the room that looks blue actually *is* blue, not grey. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/a-day-late-and-a-dollar-short-fouramblues-kitchen-reveal-dsvw-vd~3517788

Here’s a few pictures of Stonington taken in different rooms with various light conditions.

bright natural light from a north picture window:

    No windows, LED lights:

Late afternoon light from solar tube:

I think it looks great in all situations.

My son is about to move into a home with a light gray living room and we found the paint can -- SW Gray Screen. It is a light misty gray without going blue or purple in the light there. It is one of the colors in the SW Perfect Colors link Yayagal posted.

We like SW Grayish. Just finished a condo remodel and used it in 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It doesn’t seem to make many lists but really love it and the amount of light does make a big difference.

SW Repose Gray is a nice warm gray. I also like Sherwin Williams Light French Gray. Gray Owl is beautiful, but it does have green undertones.

Fouramblues, love your kitchen remodel. That really turned out great.
