Non-ugly, modern, wall lights?

I am looking for wall lights for our bedrooms. We like a modern/contemporary look and would love to not pay more than $200 apiece.


Our bedrooms have a single wall light and no ceiling light, so we need something that is fairly bright and shines in all directions. I seem to have best luck with flushmount ceiling lights that can be mounted on the wall.

    It's probably a given that your definition of "ugly" is different than mine, since I don't see any shortage of attractive wall lighting. So I'm going to stay away from specific fixture recommendations.

    The core of your problem seems to be that you are trying to make one puny wall fixture be your only lighting. Have you considered getting the bulk of your lighting from table and floor lamps? Lamps on the nightstand(s), lamps on the dresser, maybe a floor lamp in the corner will do more to illuminate your room than even the best wall fixture. I know that isn't as convenient as a switched fixture, but the quality of the light will be better.

    If you really want that wall fixture to do everything, how do you feel about track lighting. I don't know all the ins and outs, but I've seen monorail track systems that have been mounted on a wall. With multiple heads, you could direct some at the ceiling for indirect light and use other heads for task or accent lighting.
