Kanagroo paw problems

Hi , I recently planted kangaroo paw in a flower bed for my balcony. Within a few weeks the kangaroo paw's leaves started to brown and the flowers dropped off. Now it looks like it struggling to make new growth.
I live in Sydney and the balcony is westerly facing with strong afternoon sun light.
Any ideas on what the problem could be with the kangaroo paw?
