Help design my dining room!

Here is my space. It's a bit awkward with the door to the enclosed mudroom to outside. My first problem;

1. do I keep the bench? It takes up a lot of space, and eventually I plan on putting a door there to the back yard. The floor is finished underneath, so it can come out. Window treatment ideas needed too!

2. I've purchased the attached table 72" W X 36" D X 30" H It will be here next month. I need to get 6 affordable chairs to go with it, as well as decide on placement.

3. I would love a buffet or console table, but fear there's no room. Can shelves work on the door wall?

4. The light/placement will probably need changing, but I have the ac vent on the ceiling there.

I hope I can start to get some Ideas especially for chair styles as I like more modern, but don't know what will look good with the table! I've put my art on the kitchen wall and I will attach that too..

Your new table is 3 feet in width and the width of the space is 10 feet? I think you have plenty of space for a buffet or console table along the wall with the door! I don't know how daring you want to be, but the deeper colour of the flooring lends itself to perhaps a brighter buffet or console table in a cooler colour. Or perhaps a deeper shade of blue that contrasts but complements the art on the opposing wall (although my laptop doesn't have the best colouring so maybe I'm off on the colours in the artwork haha). Even a simple white buffet or console table would look great against the colour of the walls: https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/96897829463817893

I like the window bench. It doesn’t look like removing it would give you any more floor space, so I would leave it.

Is your new table going to fit in that space with enough room around for good flow into the kitchen and out that side door?

Cut out the size of your table and standard chairs to scale and put on your drawing to see.

Thanks for the feedback! The current table though short, is about 40" wide, so the new table will be more narrow, and I had planned to move it further towards livingroom to allow for traffic. Hoping I can get the door turned to open out (it used to be an outside door, but there is an enclosed porch now.

    Any ideas for chair style?

New table is in, wondering if I need to find a rug to lighten it up? I really need chair style/color ideas. Should I move my art to the left wall? I also have to decide on placement in the room and deal with the light fixture.

Trying some different ideas. I worry about everything flowing together. Willing to get new living room rug to coordinate. Just kinda lost now. So dark with the new table.

Why not keep the old chairs and just get two new host chairs?

I'd get a new light fixture and swag it over. How about this one? Do I remember you admiring it in the past? It's pretty big.

I think a narrow console should replace your little bar cart which is kind of lost on the big wall. How does it look on the other wall under the art?

I planned to get rid of the small bar cart Just there until I decide what to do. Worried that anything on that wall would take up too much space. Though, I like the idea of a bar cabinet. I thought about maybe moving the art to that wall also. The current chairs are nice, but I thought a little dark and blah. This house has much less natural light.

I do love the sputnik light! I've seen a lot of rooms with 2 lights over the table, so that may be an option. I've been so neutral in the past, but craving a bit of color lately! Just painted my bedroom in Newburg green.

I do think a buffet would look good on that wall. Thanks Grover!

What are your thoughts on the window seat? Remove it or redo the pad and play up the pillows? Roman shades for windows? My idea is to put in a door there eventually to a patio, but that is down the road. The windows are north facing, and there's no need for privacy.

I'm leaning towards these chairs. Thought to keep it light and neutral because I'm still unsure of what rugs I'll end up with.

Trying the art on this wall. I think the area is too narrow for a console, but maybe I can fit one on the right wall where the small x console is now? I've ordered the chairs, now I need rug ideas. Thinking jute/sisal as this is a high traffic area with the back door.

A door in the bay window where the bench currently sits seems like a good idea, but you need to think about the height. We wanted to do the same thing in our house, until a builder pointed out that the door would go to the ceiling in the bay and would not look right. Something to think about.

Better to post too little than all this. If you have all the answers, why should anyone post anything?

    1. do I keep the bench? It takes up a lot of space, and eventually I plan on putting a door there to the back yard. The floor is finished underneath, so it can come out. Window treatment ideas needed too!

Tear out the bench and put the buffet there

    2. I've purchased the attached table 72" W X 36" D X 30" H It will be here next month. I need to get 6 affordable chairs to go with it, as well as decide on placement.

    3. I would love a buffet or console table, but fear there's no room. Can shelves work on the door wall? NO Shelves

    4. The light/placement will probably need changing, but I have the ac vent on the ceiling there.

Thank you Beverly! Don't have all the answers, I second guess everything! I keep posting my ideas in hopes of feedback, different ideas I guess...I like the idea of a console there. It would also allow for drapes to the floor too!

I haven't seen much of the area, but I don't mind your art there - is that the wall you see while seated?

What about a practical poly rug that has color. I like the warm almost mustard floral, to me good with many rectangles [that tiling creates]. The stripe-y one seems too repetitive with tiles.... ? just me.

Size? this poly is $178 and mimics look of jute.
